Hello, MarniR.
Usually, when the affected account is the Account Receivable in the Journal entry, this transaction will show in the open invoice report. To eliminate the journal entry from displaying on your open invoices report, you can create a credit memo or receive payment to offset the open invoices.
Here's how to create a credit memo in QBO:
- Click the (+) New icon and select Credit Memo.
- Choose the customer name.
- Enter the Credit Memo Date.
- Fill in the necessary information.
- Tap Save and Close.
Then Apply the credit memo to an invoice. Here's how:
- Click + New.
- Choose to Receive payment.
- In the Customer dropdown, select the customer.
- In the Outstanding Transactions section, select the open invoice to which you want to apply the credit memo.
- Press Save and close.
The procedures outlined above will help you apply the credit to your customer's open invoices. This article is helpful as a reference: Apply a credit memo, credit, or refund to a customer.
However, if this invoice is uncollectible, you'll want to write it off in QuickBooks Online. For more details about writing debt off, please check out this article: Write off bad debt in QuickBooks Online.
