How can I make the account number visible on my chart of accounts

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @lcbs-accts.

Let's turn on first the account number feature in QuickBooks Oline, and it would be my pleasure to walk you through the step by step instructions on how to turn it on and assign account numbers in the Chart of Accounts (COA).

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced and click the Edit button in the COA section.
  3. Tick the box in the Enable account numbers and Show account numbers
  4. Hit Save and then Done

Once done, you now assign numbers in your account. Let me show you how:

  1. Select the Accounting menu located in the bottom part, then choose Chart of Accounts
  2. Click the small drop-down arrow under ACTION.
  3. Enter the account number, then hit Save and close

If ever the account number is not showing on the COA page after saving, you'll need to customize the window. Simply click the small gear icon, then put a checkmark in the Number box.
