How can I run a P/L Report by Custom Field?

With the retirement of Tags, I am losing a required report - A Profit and Loss Report by Tag Group with the columns being each Tag and the rows being each Income or Expense category line item. I have not been able to find a way to replicate this P/L report using the Custom Fields. How can this be done? And a side question, I migrated by Tags to Custom Fields, but it appears that nothing actually migrated. All of my transactions that were tagged with a Tag do not now have that same corresponding Tag in the Custom Field. Surely I do not have to go in and manually redo every transaction? What is the point of the "migration" if that is the case?

How can I run a P/L Report by Custom Field?

I value your participation in our Community, Rekent. While generating a Proft and Loss report using the custom fields is unsupported, I'll share alternative solutions you could consider to facilitate this reporting need.

In QuickBooks Online, there is no built-in option to create a Profit and Loss report that includes columns for custom field values. While this feature would be beneficial, it does not replicate the column-based reporting available with the former Tag Group feature.

As a workaround, you can run standard P&L reports and export the data to a spreadsheet program. You can use pivot table functionality to rearrange the data.

You could also explore third-party applications that offer advanced customization and reporting features needed to recreate your desired P&L format. Visit our QuickBooks App Store and navigate to the CATEGORIES section to select an app that best suits your needs.

I recommend checking the app's Reviews section for valuable insights into customer feedback and experiences. Reading these reviews will give you insight into how other users have interacted with the app.

Regarding your second concern, the tool takes your existing tag names and adds them to the dropdown list of the custom field. However, it does not automatically apply these custom field values to your historical transactions that have already been tagged. As a result, those transactions remain unchanged.

I encourage you to submit your suggestions and concerns by leveraging the Send Feedback option in your QuickBooks Online. It is the most effective way to communicate with our Product development team. They regularly review these submissions to guide future updates. Your input is crucial in helping us enhance our product features and improve the user experience.

Moreover, I’ve included these comprehensive and helpful articles to guide you through managing third-party app integrations within QuickBooks Online, including how to transfer app ownership and disconnect apps when needed:
