How do I adjust column width in an estimate?

Adjusting column width in an estimate in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is an easy process, positiveenergy. I'll provide details below.

You can adjust the column width by pointing the cursor to the column and dragging the scale width icon to the left or right.

I've added a screenshot for your reference.

Also, you can customize templates to modify default column widths by going to Custom form Styles.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner and select Custom form styles.
  2. Look for the estimate template and click Edit.
  3. Go to the Content tab and select the second blurred section.
  4. Go to the COLUMNS section and click EDIT LABELS AND WIDTHS.
  5. Adjust the column widths and select Done.

How do I adjust column width in an estimate?

In step number 4, you said we could adjust column widths.  That is partially true.  I can adjust column widths within a limit of total characters for 2 grouped columns.  My product/service and quantity are one group and my rate and amount are another group.  When I try to increase my product/service column width, the quantity column width automatically changes inversely.  Example: there are a total number of of 29 characters available in this "grouping".  When the product/service has 21 characters, the quantity has 8.  If I move the product/service column to 18 characters, the quantity has 11.  The same thing happens with the rate column and amount column "grouping."  To add to the frustration, the rate and amount columns have a combined character availability of 70.  So I have 29 characters for my product/service description and quantity then 70 characters for my rate and amount??

How do I adjust column width in an estimate?

QuickBooks will make corresponding adjustments per width if there are changes made in the first column, Sha. I'll provide more information below.

The estimate has specific columns and widths that help ensure all details added will fit inside the transaction. Thus, when you modify the width in your estimate in QuickBooks Online (QBO), it will affect other columns as well. Otherwise, they won't be aligned or balanced when sending or printing.

Since the option to add specific widths to columns in your estimates isn't available, I can help you submit a feature request to our Product Development Team. This way, they can evaluate the suggestion. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Under the Profile column, choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  4. Click the Next button.

I'm just a click away if you have additional questions about adjusting the column width in your estimate. I assure you I'll be around and lend you a helping hand. Keep safe.

The part that is not making sense is your comment of "The estimate has specific columns and widths that help ensure all details added will fit inside the transaction." along with my comment of "So I have 29 characters for my product/service description and quantity then 70 characters for my rate and amount?"

Why would there be FAR less characters available in the columns that include product/service description?  I understand that there is a limit to the total number of characters but the distribution of those characters within the columns does not make sense.

How do I adjust column width in an estimate?

I am having the same problem as SHA and it is driving me bananas.  I have been struggling to get the widths to work right because Quickbooks keeps automatically adjusting the other widths when you slide the slider over...it's absolutely insane!  Is there a workaround.  I wanted to assign my own width numbers to each column but it's like a game of whack-a-mole.  This is a very conceived design feature...now what...my column widths are still messed up!
