How do I delete a vehicle in QB Self-Employed? I don't own one.

If the vehicle is classified as a non-primary vehicle, you can mark it as inactive to keep your records organized. I'll walk you through the process to achieve this, Immanuel.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), there's no option to delete a vehicle entirely, but marking it inactive will effectively remove it from your list of active vehicles.  As long as you don’t track any expenses related to that vehicle, it won’t affect your financial reports at all.

Here’s how to mark a vehicle as inactive:

1. Access your QuickBooks Self-Employed account.
2. Go to Miles.
3. Click the drop-down arrow beside Add trip.
4. Select Manage vehicle.
5. Choose the vehicle, then click Vehicle no longer in use.

Additionally, I have a helpful article on managing bank transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed: Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

If you have any other questions or need further assistance in managing vehicles in QBSE, just let me know by dropping a comment below. I’m here for you.

Thank you, but I don't see the "Vehicle no longer in use" option?

We've got some additional information about making your vehicle inactive in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), Immanuel.

The Vehicle no longer in use option will only show if it's a non-primary vehicle. We can only remove or deactivate the vehicle for non-primary use. Please see the screenshots for your reference:

In case you need to make your vehicle inactive (for the secondary one), follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Miles on the left menu.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow beside Add trip.
  3. Choose Manage vehicle.
  4. In the Active section, choose the vehicle aside from the Primary one.
  5. Click the Vehicle no longer in use tab to move it to the Inactive section of your Manage vehicles pane.

it looks like you still have to have a vehicle I am in the same boat here, I don't use a vehicle and it won't let me delete it. same issue last year!

Your perspective on this is valuable, Ait. However, instead of deleting the vehicle, we can make it set to inactive. Let me guide you through the steps.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), instead of deleting a vehicle, you can have it as inactive. This method keeps historical data safe and provides a clear record of changes. When you make a vehicle inactive, past reports stay correct, and future calculations are not affected.

Here's how to set the Vehicle as inactive:

  1. Go to Expenses, then click on Mileage.
  2. Click the dropdown beside Add Trip and choose Manage Vehicles.
  3. Pick the vehicle you want to inactive.
  4. Click on Vehicle no longer in use to move it to the inactive section under Manage Vehicles.

Please have this article to learn more about deactivating a vehicle: Set up vehicles and mileage tracking in QuickBooks Online.

Apart from inactivating your vehicle, you can also have this article to have guides when running different reports in QBSE: Export transactions and get reports in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

It's my pleasure to assist you with setting the Vehicle as inactive in QuickBooks Self-Employed. If you need more assistance or additional information, please hit the Reply button below and feel free to check out the linked articles.

How do I delete a vehicle in QB Self-Employed? I don't own one.

Why can we not remove a primary vehicle? My vehicle was totaled and I do not own it anymore. This is asinine, and it is the most frustrating thing I face when filing my taxes.

It's understandable that you're feeling this way, sethklowery.

In QuickBooks Self-Employed, removing a primary vehicle is unavailable; instead, you can make it inactive. I recommend adding a dummy vehicle to designate the primary vehicle as inactive. Below, I will guide you through the process.

Here's how to add a new vehicle:

  1. Sign in to your QBSE account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and select Vehicle info.
  3. Under the Manage vehicles tab, select Add vehicle.
  4. Enter your vehicle’s info and select how you want to record your mileage for the year in the Tax info section.
  5. Hit Save when done.

Next, follow the steps below on how to assign a primary vehicle:

  1. Go back to the Gear icon and Vehicle info.
  2. Choose the primary vehicle you want under the Manage vehicles option.
  3. Turn on the Set as primary vehicle switch then hit Save.

To make your vehicle inactive, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague @RCV above.

Visit this article for detailed information: Set up vehicles and mileage tracking in the QuickBooks Online mobile app.

For your future reference, feel free to open this article:  Export transactions and get reports in QBSE.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you need further help. We're always here to lend a hand.

None of these suggestions have worked. Is there any other option? I might have to use another service if I can't figure this out.

Thanks for chiming in, @NicholasPNW.

Currently, there isn't a way to fully remove a vehicle from your list. However, you can make the vehicle inactive, effectively removing it from your active vehicle list. This won't affect your financial reports if you don't track any expenses related to that vehicle. You can make it inactive by using the steps my colleagues provided above.

With that said, I think this would be the perfect opportunity to submit a feedback request to our Product Development Team. Our Developers review each request and consider them all for future updates. You can use the link I'm including below to submit any new suggestions.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Have a good one!
