How do I prepare a report that compares two different classes?

I am asking for a theatre company that assigns a class to each production.  It would be helpful to be able to compare productions and see the differences for each revenue and expense account. I can run the statement of activity by the classes I want to compare, but I can't see how to show differences between them.  The report will only add the two classes together in a total column. I appreciate any suggestions!

How do I prepare a report that compares two different classes?

Hello, Spring Lily.

Welcome to the Community. We can run the Profit and Loss by Class report, let's make sure that the class is filtered to (Select all). This way, it will show the differences in class transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and open the Profit and Loss by Class report.
  2. Press Customize, then mark-check the (Select all) box under the Filter drop-down list.
  3. Click Run report

Here are some articles that will help you in managing your reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

Additionally, I've attached a blog about class for additional reference: Use Class Tracking in QuickBooks

Please keep in touch if you have any other questions about classes, or about QuickBooks. I'm here to lend a hand. Have a great day ahead.

How do I prepare a report that compares two different classes?

Thank you for your response.  I was not clear with the problem I am having.  I can run this report that show the different classes and I know how to customize it to only show the classes I want.  My problem is that I would like a report with a column that shows the difference between the two classes.  For example, the difference in ticket sales between the two classes.  Thanks!

How do I prepare a report that compares two different classes?

Good day, @Spring Lily.

I'll be glad to provide you another workaround to get the class details that you want.

You can run the Sales by the Class Summary report and customize it columns. This will help you compare the sales for each class and their total profit.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and open the Sales by the Class Summary report.
  2. Click Customize, then select Classes in the Filter drop-down list.
  3. Select Run report.

That should do it. In addition, you can check out these articles to get more details on handling your reports in QuickBooks.
