How do I remove my vehicle from quickbooks self employed?

For the time being, you're unable to remove a vehicle from QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE), Kevin. However, we can make it inactive when no longer in use. We'll guide you on how to do this below.

Before doing so, please note that you can't mark your vehicle as inactive if it's set as the primary. You need to assign a different one as the primary vehicle first. Whenever you're ready, perform these steps:

  1. Go to the Profile or Gear ⚙ icon and then Vehicle info.
  2. Select Vehicle info.
  3. Click the vehicle you want to remove.
  4. From there, select the Vehicle no longer in use button. This moves your vehicle to the Inactive section of your Manage vehicles pane.

To learn more about organizing vehicles in QBSE, please see this article: Mileage tracking (Manage your vehicles section).

Additionally, do you use more than one vehicle for your business? Now you can track miles and match expenses for each of them in QBSE, which helps you get the max deduction and keep your books organized for tax season. For more details about this, you can check out this article: Track expenses for vehicles in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Please let me know if there's anything else that we can do to help you manage vehicles and mileage data in QBSE. We’ve got you covered.

How do I remove my vehicle from quickbooks self employed?

Having valuable insights into your vehicle usage and expenses is essential to your operations, @GregSch. I've got some details about the missing option when managing your vehicles in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

If you have only one vehicle registered, it is automatically designated as your primary vehicle and cannot be deactivated. As a result, the Vehicle no longer in use button is unavailable for this vehicle.

However, if you have multiple vehicles and want to stop using the primary vehicle for business purposes, you can add or select a new one. Then, you can change the status of the current primary vehicle to inactive. I'll guide you through the process below.

To add a new vehicle, here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBSE account.
  2. Go to the Gear icon and select Vehicle info.
  3. Under the Manage vehicles tab, select Add vehicle.
  4. Enter your vehicle’s info and select how you want to record your mileage for the year in the Tax info section.
  5. Hit Save when done.

Next, follow the steps below on how to assign a primary vehicle:

  1. Go back to the Gear icon and Vehicle info.
  2. Choose the primary vehicle you want under the Manage vehicles option.
  3. Turn on the Set as primary vehicle switch then hit Save.

I'll also add this article provides the complete steps for adding and assigning a primary vehicle in QBSE on a web browser, iOS, or Android device: Set up vehicles and mileage tracking in QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, QBSE offers versatile options for accessing transaction information, including generating financial reports and exporting. Learn more about this capability through this resource: Export transactions and get reports in QBSE.

We're here to provide information that helps you navigate your financial journey with QBSE, whether tracking mileage or diving into transaction details. Notify us below if you need further assistance managing these data within the program. We always have your back.
