How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

This seems like a very simple task, but after 2 hrs on chat with support (with the last person just ending the chat on me without resolution), I still have no answer. I tried (and was told) to use the Transaction by Customer report, however this will only bring up Deposits assigned to a Customer. I have double checked the settings under customize and still it will only show Deposits. If I run the P

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

I'm glad to show you how to run a report to see all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer, charlotteb..

You're on the right track to using the Transactions List by Customer report. All you need to do is mark the Transactions Type and Customer boxes when you filter it.

Let me guide you on how to accomplish your task.

  1. Go to Report from the left menu.
  2. Find and open Transactions List by Customer.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Change the date to customize the reporting period.
  5. Go to the Filter section.
  6. Mark Transaction Type, then choose Deposits and Expenses.
  7. Mark Customer.
  8. Click Run report.

You can also email, print, or export this report. I'm adding this link to learn how to do it: Run reports in QuickBooks Online. It provides instructions and detailed steps to guide you through the process.

Keep me posted if you need anything else aside from seeing a list of all deposits and expenses for a customer. I'm always right here to help you.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

As stated in my original post, I have made sure all those setting are correct and I still only see Deposits.  How do I see a list of the transactions that make up the numbers in my P & L by Customer?

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

It's nice to have you with us in the Community today, @charlotteb.sandc. Let me share some insights to see the transactions in the Profit and Loss report in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To drill down and view the transactions:

  1. From the left pane, go to Reports tab.
  2. Go to the Profit and Loss Report.
  3. Click the amount of the certain account and it will show all of the transactions associated with the account selected.
  4. By clicking the transactions you can also see that the customers are categorized by column.

You can also filter the report into one specific customer at a time so that you can clearly view the transactions per customer.

Here's How:

  1. Select Customize.
  2. Click the Filter.
  3. Select the specific customer you want in the Customer area.

After doing that, click the Run Report and you can also export your reports to Excel if necessary.

You can also check this article to learn more about running reports by class.

Stay in touch if you have other questions or concerns. I'd be glad to help. Thanks for visiting us today.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

OK I tried all those steps, but that still does not show me a complete list of transactions assigned to a customer.

It shows me a list of transactions assigned to each customer for each account, not a complete list of all transactions assigned to a customer.

Thank you for your prompt reply, @charlotteb.sandc. I’ll be happy to provide you with the steps on how to see all transactions assigned to a customer in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here’s how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. On the left navigation pane, click Sales.
  3. Under the Sales tab, select Customers.
  4. Click on your desired Customer to check all the transactions.

You can use the Filter option to filter the specific transactions that you want to see. Running this list will also allow you to print it out.

Here are some helpful links to help you with how to print, export, and email reports.

Thank you for getting back here in Community, @charlotteb.sandc. Let me share some insights about showing the transaction list in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

One possible reason why transactions are missing in the Transaction List of the customer's profile is that you haven't created a transaction yet. Thus, it will not reflect on the Profit and Loss by Customer Report.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

If you look at my original post you will clearly see that I know how to run a P & L by Customer and that the transactions are accounted for there.  I just cannot get it to show me a list, by customer, of the transactions that make up those numbers in the P & L by Customer!!  Please!, can someone from Quickbooks fully read the question and all the comments and help me figure out what should be a simple task.  I purposefully pay fo the edition of quickbooks that is supposed to provide me support and I am not getting it.     Thank you.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

Hello @charlotteb.sandc,

I appreciate you for getting back to us regarding the report you need. I know the importance of having the data you need for your business in QuickBooks Online.

I would feel the same way in that situation when seeking further assistance. Allow me to chime in and share what I know about the reports in the Online version.

I've reviewed the thread and found out you're able to access Transaction List by Customer. However, it's not showing the expenses assigned to them.

If the expenses assigned are Billable to your customers, you can include them in the report. I suggest adding the Billable Expense Charge option from the Filters section.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Transaction List by Customer report.
  2. Click the Customize option in the upper-right corner.
  3. Filter the transaction types and include Billable Expense Charge
  4. Make the necessary changes and hit Run report

If the expenses aren't billable to your customers, the closest report you can run is Transaction Detail by Account. This report allows you to view expense transactions along with the customers linked to them.

Please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Transaction Detail by Account report.
  2. Click the small Cogwheel icon within the report.
  3. Add the Customer column.
  4. Make the necessary changes to the filters.
  5. Hit Run report.

You can utilize the Export to Excel option in the report to merge data into a single file. I know this will cause a lot of work on your end, so I recommend sending feedback to our product engineers.

They can view all of the user suggestions and might consider adding the option in future updates. While we assess this, you can send your feedback through here:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks account.
  2. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose Feedback below Profile.

I've attached a link you can use as a reference if you want to save custom reports in QuickBooks: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Leave a comment below if you have other concerns related to running reports or managing expenses. The Community and I will be around to help you.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

@AlcaeusF  Thank you for providing an actual solution!  That worked as a work around!

Although you are right, that is a bunch of work on my end for what I would think is a very common need.  It seems like a report/function/feature many many people would need.  I find it crazy a Transaction by Customer report wouldn't show ALL transactions assigned to that customer!!

Or if they could even add the Customer column to the Transaction by Date report, that would be helpful.

As a note, what is interesting about the Transaction by Customer report not showing any expenses assigned to my customers, is it does show these random two expenses?  Any idea on why that would be?  They are both categorized to the same expense category.

How do i see a transaction list of all deposits and expenses assigned to a customer?

Thank you for your response, @charlotteb.sandc. I can discuss some information about your concern.

You can check the two expense transactions shown on your report by clicking on them. Ideally, if the information includes the customer, it will show what those transactions are. However, the option to include the customer is unavailable.

After that, let me know how it goes by providing a screenshot. To assist you further.

To help improve your experience, I'd also recommend submitting feedback to our product developers for this function in QuickBooks Online.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

You can visit our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website to track the status of your submitted feedback.
