Hello there, @Repurposed.
I'll share some information on how QuickBooks manage uploaded bank statements.
Before we start, can you please share a screenshot of the renamed statement? This could help us provide the best resolution to this issue.
Please know that QuickBooks doesn't rename any uploaded bank statements. The software only depends on the information uploaded to the system.
To get this fixed, you'll want to review your bank statement information and reupload it if needed. Also, you'll have to review your bank rules to ensure it doesn't affect your uploaded statements.
You can read these resources to learn more about uploading bank statements manually in QuickBooks Online (QBO):
You may also want to check out this article if you need more help reconciling your bank accounts in QBO: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online. This will help make sure your QuickBooks transactions match your bank statement.
Come back to this post and let me know if you have clarification about this. I want to make sure you're taken care of.
Hi @Mark_R,
Thanks for the reply. To be clear, I'm talking only about the "hard copy" of the bank statement that I upload for recordkeeping purposes, not data that is uploaded for import. Although the data syncs directly with the bank, the statements do not and I don't get paper copies, so I attach the PDFs to the reconciliation so I have them if needed in the future.
This is what I see:
Take, for example, the first item on the list, labeled as "Statement 10/12/2022 - 10/12/2022." Well, that's attached to the QBO reconciliation dated 11/10/2022. The name of the file I uploaded is "Statement_112022_4349.pdf." So how did it get named "Statement 10/12/2022 - 10/12/2022"?
It appears that something in QuickBooks is looking at the text of the PDF and trying to come up with a name for the file, sort of like it does with receipts. I mean, I didn't name it that and that's not a reconciliation date, but that date (10/12/2022) does appear in the text of the PDF as it's the start date of the statement in question.
Regardless of how it's doing it, it's doing it incorrectly and I see no way to change it. QBO ignores the name of the file that I uploaded, so changing that doesn't help.
Oh, and to go one step further, I have reconciled through my December statement date of 12/11/2022, as seen here on the reconciliation page for this account:
But when I look at the history for this same account, that reconciliation is nowhere to be found:
So, questions:
Probably separate issues, but just buggy all around.
Before you suggest it, I have tried deleting all cookies and caches in my browser. I have also used two different browsers (Chrome and Safari) and I see the same thing in both.
I'll share some information about the bank statements in QuickBooks Online, Repurposed.
As @Mark_R mentioned, QuickBooks only depends on the information being transmitted and doesn't rename a file of your uploaded statement. Your bank provides all the files that contain all the data that you want to download. You'll want to reach out to your bank if you encounter issues specific to your data.
On the other hand, you can use the Audit Log if you want to know who made any changes to your books and be able to track activities with your reconciliation.
On the other hand, you can log out from your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account and log back in. Then, check if transactions are still showing as unreconciled. You can also use an incognito window to fix any specific issues when viewing bank transactions.
However, if you're still experiencing the same, I suggest reaching out to our support team so they can take a look at this and investigate further. They also have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment. Here's how to reach them:
Additionally, you can dozens of reports so you'll get the data you need. You'll just have to customize them so it would show the correct information. I've added this article for your reference: Customize Reports In QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if you have any questions about your bank statements. I'll always be right here to help.
Yeah... Clearly you're not understanding me or you don't understand the tech behind what the site does.
The file I'm talking about is a PDF I manually download from my bank. I do not upload it to sync the data. That happens automatically and works fine. No problems thus far. My account is reconciled.
When I have finished reconciling, I'm given an opportunity to attach a statement. At this point, I upload the PDF that I downloaded earlier. That file is called "Statement_112022_4349.pdf." Nothing happens to my account register. I'm simply attaching a file.
After that file is uploaded, it appears in QuickBooks as "Statement 10/12/2022 - 10/12/2022."
I did not name it that and that is not the date of my reconciliation, yet somehow it has been renamed. You don't know how, and that's fine, but don't say it doesn't happen because clearly something does. I've sent images proving that.
So... Please don't bother responding with more help file text that I have already read and which doesn't relate to my question. I'm fine accepting that you simply don't know the answers and I'll attempt to get them from the techies, but let's leave this thread open. There is no solution provided so I can't "Accept as Solution," but at some point some other user else will experience the same issue and will be given the same canned responses you've provided.
To that future user: Yeah something happens behind the scenes that the community staff doesn't understand. If I learn what it is, I'll follow-up here.
