How to adjust chart of account balances

Welcome to the Community space, contact. Allow me to share some information about adjusting the Chart of accounts balances in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To maintain accurate financial records, it's important to have a well-organized and precise Chart of accounts. However, it's crucial to note that any adjustments made to your Chart of Accounts could impact your books. Therefore, it's recommended to consult with an accountant before making any changes.

In the meantime, if you need to edit an opening balance by entering transactions that occurred before the starting balance, you must adjust the start date and balance to prevent duplicate transactions. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select the specific account and click View Register.
  3. Locate the opening balance entry. Then, sort the date column to show the oldest entries first.
  4. Click the opening balance.
  5. There, you can edit the amount and date. If you want to make changes, you can click on Edit.
  6. Select Save.
