How to charge or invoice a customer for credit card processing

Good afternoon, @lucia1.

Welcome to the Community, I'm glad to give you information on payment processing fees.

The feature you're looking for isn't available in QuickBooks Online.

Although, there is a workaround.

Here's how to create an invoice for an additional charge:

  1. Select the Create icon ⨁.
  2. Under Customers, choose Invoice.
  3. Fill out the invoice with the necessary information.
  4. From the Product/Service drop-down, choose the finance/service charge or late fee item. (Note: If you don't have an item for additional charges, select Add New from the Product/Service item drop-down.)
  5. Enter the amount of the charge.
  6. Choose Save and Close.

Here's how to add a charge on an existing invoice:

  1. Select Sales, then select Customers.
  2. Select the name of the customer to view the Transaction List.
  3. Find and select the invoice.
  4. In the next unused line on the Product/Service section, choose the finance/service charge or late fee item. (Note: If you don't have an item for additional charges, select Add New from the Product/Service item drop-down.)
  5. Enter the amount of the charge.
  6. Select Save and Close.

Thank you Joshua.  Under Account & Setting - Sales, I do not see the option for "Convenience Fee."  I only see "Late Fees." Please assist.

Thank you!

The convenience fees setting can be turned on by going to:

1. Click the Gear Icon

2. Select Accounts and Settings

3. Choose Sales

4. Locate Convenience Fees

5. Turn the setting On and select the percentage (1%-4%).

How to verify the setting is on when creating invoices:
Within the Invoice page (+ > Invoice), if Online payments is activated, the convenience fee is automatically calculated based on the preferred percentage.

Thank you for responding, @lucia1.

The convenience fee option is currently not available in QuickBooks Online. Although, there is another option depending on your state laws, which are listed in my first response. You may be able to add a line item on the invoice for the processing fees. For this, you will need to contact the Attorney General for your state.

I'm also going to submit feedback to our product developers for the convenience fee to possibly be an option in future updates.

You can always keep up with the updates coming to QuickBooks by taking a look at The QuickBooks Blog.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the response on this so you can get back to business. Have a good one!
