Good morning, @giannibyte.
Thanks for reaching out to the QuickBooks Community. I hope you're having a great day so far.
At this time, the option to customize payment receipts is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, you can copy and enter the invoice number in the Memo field when printing the receipt. This way, you can view its details once the transaction is printed. Let me show you how:
That should do the trick.
I want to let know that I understand the importance of having the option to show the invoice number on the payment receipt. With that being said, I'm going to submit this suggestion to our Product Development Team. This way, our team can review the request and consider it for a future update.
In the meantime, please feel free to visit our Firm of the Future site. This is where we share recent happenings and future developments, such as updates to newly added features.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead!
@giannibyte RE: I just realized that that receipt now does not contain the invoice number anymore.
You must want a receipt like QuickBooks Desktop prints. It of course includes the invoice number, as that's what everyone wants:
But rest assured, Intuit knows that QuickBooks Online users have no need to communicate to their customers how the customer's payments were applied. That's not really important to anyone. They're sure because their marketing team did a survey. Rest assured, soon you will grow to like answering the phone and letting your customers know how you applied their payments.
The payment receipt used to show Invoice Number, Invoice Date, Due Date, Original Amount, Balance and Payment prior to April of this year. Now it only shows Invoice Date and Payment. I think that this is just another glitch in your software!
RE: The payment receipt used to show Invoice Number, Invoice Date, Due Date, Original Amount, Balance and Payment
Yes and then Intuit fixed it because that was just so overwhelming, especially for QuickBooks Online.
Now it's so much better, I'm sure. So much simpler and more streamlined. And probably looks great on a phone, because of course that is important.

Remind me again why I'd want to 'upgrade' from Desktop to Online?
Hello, thanks for the reply, however I do not understand why we should use a "trick". Payment receipts are very important to my customers, so they know what they are paying for. The receipt should be fully customizable just like an invoice. Actually, we should be able to show also the description of what they pay, not just an invoice#. QuickBooks desktop does it, other accounting software do that but QBO does not. The development team refuses to look into it. I sent several feedback and the answers I get is to use a "trick"? We pay top dollars for the use of the software, I even called in and all the time "QuickBooks experts" confuses the payment receipt with the sales receipt (who even uses sales receipt? QBO is not a POS).
