How to delete credit card in chart of accounts

Hi there, @LisIsTheBoss

Since we want to ensure your transactions are intact and reports unchanged, deleting an account hasn't been made available in QBO. That's the reason why there's no delete option on your end. You have the option to make accounts inactive, so they remain as part of your company data. You also have the option to restore inactive accounts at any time.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to delete.
  3. Select the Action ▼ dropdown and select Make inactive.

I would also recommend checking out this article for additional information: Delete an account on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.

Also, to learn more about your chart of accounts and which default or special accounts can be deleted, edited, or merged in QBO, I'd recommend checking out these articles:

Let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about managing accounts in your Chart of Accounts in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success.

How to delete credit card in chart of accounts

My credit cards have zero balance and zero transactions I have tried the chart of accounts which actually does nothing because the only action I see is to make inactive at no point does the delete word show in the action and when I choose inactive the only thing the action shows is to make it active

How to delete credit card in chart of accounts

We appreciate you for joining this thread, @JJ San. We understand it's feasible on your end to have the delete option for the Chart of Accounts. Right now, let me share some insights.

We cannot permanently delete an account, except for merging one account into another. The only option we have is to Make it inactive. Even if it has zero balances and transactions, the delete option won't appear. You can, however, edit the account information so you can still utilize it by clicking the dropdown icon of your Credit card account below the Action column and tapping Edit.

Once an account is inactive, it will no longer affect your book, and you can't use that account again unless you make it active, the same as you delete it. It's just in QuickBooks, your credit card account will still be visible as inactive until the time comes when you want to make it active.

You can read this article if you need detailed info about it: Make an account inactive on your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.
