When I click on an expense or account within the Profit and Loss report in order to see a detailed list of what is included in the total, I get the "Modern view".
This view DOES NOT show me the detailed list until I click on a button which expands to actually show the list.
"Modern view" is creating more work while I'm using QBO. When I pull up a report, by default, sections are collapsed for some reason.
The reason I pulled up the report is to look at the data - why am I having to click something else in order to see it? The classic view presents all data immediately, which is the expectation when clicking an amount total - I want to see what comprises the total. This "feature" of the modern view is debilitating our use of the product.
Please explain how to disable "Modern View" so I may use the product as efficiently as I was able to prior to this change in March of this year.
Hello, @banana-money. I'm here to provide insights regarding this concern with viewing preferences in QuickBooks Online reports.
Please know that we're constantly improving to enhance our customer's experience with program features while using QuickBooks. Currently, an option to disable this Modern view is unavailable.
I understand how time-consuming this feature is when working with QBO. In the meantime, we can switch back to the Classic view. You can refer to this screenshot for your visual reference:
Otherwise, we can send this suggestion directly to our Product Developers. They'll be able to add this feature or future product enhancements. Here's how:
Your valuable idea goes to our Product Development team to help improve working with QBO. You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
Also, this article can help you modify them and save their current customization settings: Memorize Reports in QuickBooks Online.
If you still need help with other QBO transactions, please let me know, and I'll do everything I can to help here in the Community.
I appreciate your reply and I already click the Classic View button EVERY TIME (which means I'm still spending more time with the product now than in March.
Additionally, I have already given feedback. I would direct your attention to the many posts in this forum by community members who have been unhappy with this change for some time.
It is now mid-July and the change was made in March. That's at least 17 weeks of complaints in the forum and I assume countless feedback reports sent in. How long before this "feature" comes under review from feedback provided by people like me who actually pay a monthly subscription?
It's time for the simple change to be made which allows the user to disable the "modern view" BETA feature.
Thank you for your time.
I was emailed a notification of a reply to this thread by Carneil_C with the content of:
"Did it solve your problem?"
That reply does not appear in the thread but to be fair, I'll answer:
My explanation of the problem is that this problem results in extra time wasted for a beta feature I didn't ask for, can't disable, and degrades my experience with the product.
By that explanation, the problem is not solved. The problem persists and in my estimation will not be resolved until this time-wasting "feature" is removed or I'm allowed to disable it.
Hey Banana.
I hate to say it, but save your breath. We have an entire novel of comments in another thread about this horrible experience.
QBO can't help with this yet. You aren't alone. No body knows when it will be resolved.
It's ugly. It sucks. It's a time waster.
Come on over to the original thread and spread your dislike. It's fun!
@everyone in QB
Please read these messages from your community.
PLEASE build in the function to stay in classic view forever. NO ONE likes modern view.
Thank you
It appears that the QB answer to all the negative comments about Modern View is to EXPAND it to include even more reports. SMH
Please give us a way to default to modern or classic view whichever we prefer. Stop forcing us to modern view and making us click "switch to classic view". It is annoying. While you are at it please actually do something when feedback is submitted. While you are at all that can you allow us to default how many days a report shows when it firsts opens instead of defaulting to the last 90 days.

Hello Carneil -
Please pass along another user letting you know that Modern view is absolutely atrocious. I have been using Quickbooks for DECADES and Modern view might be the single worst idea I've ever seen. It feels like it was created by someone with no accounting knowledge, background, or experience. It has no utility and no value to accountants, especially given how cumbersome it is to drill down to the needed data that was immediately available in Classic view.
If QB were to ever force Modern view as a default and/or the only option, I would recommend to my organization that we look for a new accounting solution. We already struggle enough with the stripped-down version of QB Payroll that has eliminated far too many Intuit Assisted Payroll or QB Desktop Payroll features. Please don't further degrade your system.
Thank you.
I agree this 100%. And I have heard that Modern View may be made permanent, with no other option. That is NOT HELPFUL!!!!
