Buy nowWe have donations coming in from an event hosted by on of our donors. The donor sold bracelets in a festival to raise money for us and we received cash, PayPal and a check donations from that event. We did not spend funds on the event. I am not sure what is the best way to classify these transactions. Do I need to create a revenue account called "Hosted events" and track it with class or is there a different way to do this?
It’s good to see you here, @RosaGC.
You’re correct about creating an account and naming it Hosted events. That way, you can easily categorize and track them. Creating an account for these transactions will be easy and I’ll guide you on how. But before anything else, I’d recommend you consult your accountant regarding the account creation:
When entering the donations to your company, you will have the option to add the mode of payment based on how your donors provide the funds. That option will assist you in identifying which transactions are paid via check, PayPal, or in cash.
Moreover, you can also utilize the class tracking transactions to assign classes to those entries, and have a clear picture of each segment’s financial health: Turn on class tracking in QuickBooks Online.
Feel free to add your comment if you have further follow-up questions about entering your transactions in QBO. Have a great day!
Thank you so much for the explanation. it was very helpful!
