We are a pipe threading manufacturer, and we have a service item set up for the "premium threading" and part of that cost is a royalty fee, which is seperate. We do not pass the royalty fee to the customer, but want to track it. We have tried all sorts of ways to set this particular item up, and cannot get the cost to show up on a job profitability report - any suggestions?
I've got you covered, @denise8993.
To track your manufacturing cost in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you'll have to add the customer name and uncheck the billable column when paying the royalty fee. This way, the cost will show up on your job profitability report. I've attached a screenshot below of how it looks.
Here's an article you can read to learn more about tracking the products you manufacture: Track the products you manufacture.
Just in case you want to set up a product you manufacture using components in your inventory, feel free to check out this article for more guidance: Set up your product’s bill of materials.
Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day.
Thank you -
I figured this part out - we are ramping up to go live in April - so I'm just trying to tie up some loose ends!
