I am creating a bill for inventory purchase which includes a freight in cost. How do I add shipping to a bill and apply it as landed cost?

Should I add it as a Category item?
I can't seem find a way to add that as a landed cost. I was with Zoho Books and bills had a landed cost section for expenses such as freight and import duties.  Landed cost was automatically calculated and added to purchased inventory cost.
How can I do that in QB?

Applying a landed cost in QuickBooks Online (QBO) isn't possible, Mari. But let me show you a workaround on how to get this done.

On the original purchase, you'll need to add a portion of the shipping fee to each total item. Then, let's create a bill. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Hover to the + New button, then select Bill.
  2. Choose a vendor's name.
  3. Select the item you purchase, enter the quantity and the amount.
  4. Add a portion of the shipping.
  5. Click Save and close.

After that, you can settle the bill by using a clearing expense or asset account. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Edit the original bill.
  2. Increase the item's total cost by a portion of the shipping for each item.
  3. Select the clearing account, then enter the full amount as a negative amount.
  4. Click Save and close.
  5. Then, click Yes on the prompt message.

Moreover, you can set up and track your inventory items to manage them in QuickBooks.

Please feel welcome to add a reply if you have any other QBO-related concerns. We're always here to assist you

QBO doesn't have such feature. You need to use an inventory management app to integrate with QBO.
