I keep getting an error message to "enter product or service" on a bill, but there is nowhere that asks to enter it. Can someone tell me how/where to enter it?

This happens when I try to enter in the "items" section of the bill. There is a text box for description, but nowhere is there a dropdown menu with products and services. It will not let me save the bill because of this error message. The only way to save the bill is by filling out the category information without the detail of items.

Let me help you record your bills in QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

 

You'll get this error message once you enter any details in the Item details section without selecting a product or service item.

If you haven't created any items yet, simply follow these steps to add one.

 

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select Product and services.
  2. Click New, then choose the type of item you want to create.
  3. Add your details and select Save and close.

 

Once done, create again a bill and select the item in the PRODUCT/SERVICE drop-down list. Enter the rest of the details, then click Save and close.

Hello, thanks so much for your explanation. Where your screen shot shots a drop down menu for products and services under Items, my screen has an open text box that says "description." I do have a list of 20-30 items in my Products and Services list (migrated over from Desktop for Mac, plus one that I recently created in QB Online for manual mileage). Is there a reason that this text box for Description is appearing instead of a pull-down menu for products and services?

I have checked our records and found no reports from other users having an issue with the Product/Service menu, CK737.

 

Let's determine if this isn't a cache-related issue. There are times when too much-gathered data can cause unusual responses in the system.

 

Open your QuickBooks account using a private browser to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys:

 

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + P for Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  • Press Ctrl Shift N for Chrome.
  • Hold down Command Shift N for Safari.

 

If it works, you return to your main browser and clear the cache. This helps refresh the system, and you can work with a clean slate. You can also use other compatible browsers as an alternative.
