I mistakenly made Social Security a vendor instead of customer. How can I edit it?

Changing a vendor to a customer in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a breeze, and I'm here to guide you on how, @sara4bettered-ya.

In QBO, vendors are people or companies that you owe money to or subcontractors that work for you. You have the option to add their Social Security No. information in their profile. While customers are people or organization that buys goods or services from your business.

For the time being, editing a vendor profile into a customer isn't an option. You'll first have to inactivate the vendor's name and then recreate or make it as a customer. This way, you can keep your list updated and accurate. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Expenses menu.
  2. Select the Vendors tab.
  3. Click the name of the vendor you want to inactivate to open its profile.
  4. Select the Edit button.
  5. Click the Make inactive button.
  6. Choose Yes to confirm. 81.PNG

Once you're done, you're set to add a customer profile. For the step-by-step guide, you can refer to this article: Add and manage customers in QuickBooks Online.

Then, I'd recommend pulling up Customer Contact List and Vendor Contact List reports. This way, you can check that the data you've entered are recorded accordingly. To do this, go to the Reports menu's Standard tab and search for the reports you need.

In keeping with this, I'm adding this article to further guide you on how to get started and use QBO to run your business: Learn about QuickBooks Online with how-to videos. It also includes video tutorials about setting up your chart of accounts and selling things, to name a few.

Let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about managing your customer and vendor list in QBO. I'll gladly help. Keep safe, and I wish you continued success, @sara4bettered-ya.
