Do you have any copies or backups of your company file?

If so, what new program do you want to use?

I'm sorry to hear about your computer troubles, @KD03. Allow me to share some information about how QuickBooks data works and assist you in finding the best route for this situation you're in right now.

In QuickBooks Desktop, we have the ability to create a backup copy of our company files. This will be the save point of our accounting data. So if we ever run into problems, we can also use those backups and restore them in no time.

However, since you weren't able to create a backup, we can no longer restore your data to the new program you'd want to transfer it to. Not unless you happen to subscribe to our Intuit Data Protect, which is a subscription backup service where we can backup our files remotely or manually. Thus, when an issue arises, we can always get in touch with them and get assistance in retrieving our data. I've included an article to know more about this: Common questions about Intuit Data Protect.

That being said, you may need to consider these few options:

  • Check for Local Backups: Check if you have any local backups of your QuickBooks data on external hard drives, USB drives, or other storage devices. If you find a backup, you can restore it to the new program.
  • Consult an IT expert to help you retrieve your data if there's any way possible to achieve this. Your IT expert is the best person to talk about this as they have the data-related knowledge. As much as I want to route you to our Support Team, however, it's important to note that their ability to assist you in accessing your data depends on whether or not you have created a backup.

If you're able to successfully get a copy of your file, feel free to browse through this article for your guidance in restoring it: Restore a backup of your company file.

I want to ensure that all of your concerns are addressed properly. Should you need any more help with managing your data in QuickBooks Desktop, you can always ask your question here by hitting the Reply button or starting a new thread. Stay safe.

@KD03

You should find the nearest IT specialist and ask them to secure *.qbm, *.qbb, or *.qbw files from your hard drive. Can you reinstall your QBD 2017 license on your new machine?
