I received a legitimate looking email from QuickBooks about an EFT request that I do not recognize. What should I do?

The email says "Thank you for using QuickBooks! We have submitted your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) request. " and contains correct information about my company and banking details, indicating this is a legitimate email from QuickBooks/Intuit. However, I did not request an EFT. I thought it might be the yearly subscription renewal payment, but my renewal happens yearly in July and I'm receiving this email in February. What should I do?

We appreciate you alerting us to this issue, James. In order to protect your data from security problems, let me provide you with some information so you can recognize official Intuit emails and forward them to the appropriate department.

Receiving an Electronic Funds Transfer confirmation without asking for one is a sign of unusual behavior. There are times when suspicious emails are a trick to get your personal information. These frauds take a variety of forms, but they typically look legitimate. Here are a few clues to look for if you're not sure if an email is from Intuit:

  • We'll never ask for your personal information through email.
  • We'll only send emails from addresses that end with @intuit.com. It includes @e.intuit.com.
  • Every email we send you will always have a link to an intuit.com address.

If you're still in doubt, I'd recommend reaching out to our customer support team. If you have direct deposit or tax payments set up, there are times when fund transfers need to be verified. They have access to resources that can retrieve and verify your account information.

If you happen to receive doubtful emails, we can report this incident to our security team via the Intuit Security site.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions about EFT confirmations. I'd be more than happy to help. Have a wonderful day ahead!

Thank you for your response.

After reaching out to customer support as you suggested, it was determined that this was a legitimate email from Intuit authorizing payment for my QuickBooks subscription. I find it strange that the EFT request was in February but I am charged yearly in July. However, this was the official answer that customer support gave me.

If anything goes awry in the future I will be sure to update my post.
