I would like to edit categories for credit expenditures for 2020

Hello there, @sharoniberti.

Depending on the status of your credit card transactions, you can edit its category directly in the register. I can guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. Choose the Chart of Accounts tab.
  3. Locate the credit card account.
  4. From the Actions column, click View Register.
  5. Search for the transaction you want to re-categorize.
  6. Click the transaction to expand it.
  7. From the Payee/Account column, change the category of the transaction from Gas to Rent.
  8. Click the Save button.

Just a heads-up, making changes to the categories of your reconciled transaction can put you out of balance the next time you try to reconcile. I'd recommend consulting your accountant so you'd be guided accurately in managing your credit card expenses.

Also, you can ask your accountant if you want more insights on how to better record these changes. You can read this article to know the workflow about reconciling accounts in QBO: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Stay in touch with us here if you have other questions about reviewing and categorizing your credit card expenses. I am just a few clicks away.

Were you able to re-categorize your credit card expense transactions using the steps I've shared?
