Importing G/L transactions

We are a utility company, with customers across the US.  We have customers that are wanting us to export their monthly transactions (Charges and Payments) by G/L to import into QuickBooks.

I've looked through several of the iif formats but haven't found one that contains General Ledger numbers within them.

How can this be done and which layout/format should be used?

TIA

Importing G/L transactions

Hello, UtilitySystem.

I know a way how you can import IIF transactions in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

First, download the IIF kit in QBDT. Once done, you are now ready to import the transactions. Before that, ensure to create a backup copy of your company file. If you ever run into problems, you can use your backup to restore your data.

Here's how to import the IIF file:

  1. Sign in to your company file as an admin.

Note: If you’re in Multi-user mode, go to the File menu, then select Switch to Single-user Mode.

  2. Choose  File menu, then click Utilities.
  3. Hit Import, then tap Import IIF.
  4. Tick the IIF file you want to import, then click Open.
  5. Tap OK to confirm the import.

Please see this article for more details: Export, import, and edit IIF files.

I also suggest connecting your bank account to QuickBooks to import or download and categorize transactions in QBDT.

Importing G/L transactions

How to do it wasn't what I was asking.

I believe we have resolved our issue by using the Template attached as the layout.

Then use "GENERAL JOURNAL" as the TRNSTYPE.  Instead of using the Account Name in the ACCNT field, we used the actual G/L number.

As long as the G/L is in the Chart of Accounts within QBs, it works.
