When you create a Refund receipt, searching with your customer phone number is currently unavailable. However, you can update your customer's name or apply the phone number as his/her display name. This will prevent confusion in locating the right customer and let's refund the right one.
I've attached a screenshot below that shows the fifth to sixth steps.
Once done, you can issue a Refund receipt to your customer.
The Advanced Search feature in QuickBooks lets you find your transactions quick and easy. For the detailed steps, kindly refer to this article: Search for transactions.
