Is there a way to add a class to an existing budget?

Hi there, @ashley9.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m here to share some information about adding class to an existing budget in QuickBooks Online.

Adding class to an existing budget in QBO is currently unavailable. You will need to recreate the budget in order to select it.

I recommend sending a product suggestion to our developers for future enhancements. Simply click the Gear icon at the top and select Feedback.

You may also submit your request via this link: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/forums/168199. I’ll do the same on my end.

For more information on how to create budgets and how budgeting works, refer to the following article: How to create, edit, and manage budgets.

That should do it. Feel free to reach out to me if you need anything else. I’ll be more than happy to help. Take care!

This post was from 2019.  Is it still the case that you cannot add a class to an existing budget?>

Is there a way to add a class to an existing budget?

Hello, @IRG42.

Let me assist you in adding a class to an existing budget.

When creating a budget, it is possible to add up the sub-classes to the whole of their parent class, but it is important to select the appropriate subdivision method, such as by class, and avoid using consolidated or location/customer-based subdivisions.

Here's how:

  1. On Gear click Budgeting.
  2. Fill out the information needed, and under Subdivide by, select Class
  3. Enter the necessary information in Add subdivided budget for.
  4. Add your budget for each account.
  5. Click Save or Save and Close.
  6. Once done, you can run the budget report to see a consolidated total for the parent class.

Furthermore, You are always welcome to read this article for future reference: Track your transactions by class in QuickBooks Online.

If you have more questions about adding class to an existing budget, feel free to comment below and we'll respond to you as soon as possible. Take care!
