Is there a way to create invoice from Time entry list in the Self-Employed version?

Thanks for checking in with us, alice-sonyma.

At this time, QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) doesn't have the Time Tracking feature. We can create an Invoice with Time Tracking in QucikBooks Online version. However, we can create an invoice for hourly services in QBSE.

You'll want to check for a third-party application that can help you create an invoice from the Time entry list in QBSE. You can check out the apps that are compatible with QuickBooks at this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/. Any questions about integrating the app into your account are best handled by the third-party app provider. To keep updated with any upcoming QuickBooks updates and enhancements, feel free to visit these blogs:

I'll be right here to continue helping if you have any other concerns or questions about QBSE. Assistance is just a post away. Have a great day ahead.

I have been using Self-Employed Online version and there is a Time tracking feature (see attached screenshot), but it doesn't allow to create an invoice with the time tracked.  Will this be an enhancement in the future?

Thanks for joining this conversation and for sharing your screenshot, @alice-sonyma. I understand how the time tracking feature relevant to you and your business.

At the moment, this feature is still under Beta testing. We will let you know as soon as this is fully functioning in the program.

I just switched from Freshbooks to Quickbooks thinking I'd get the same functionality from the time tracking.

Quickbooks is lightyears behind Freshbooks in Time Tracking.

#1 It does not allow for Invoicing from the time tracking...  Isn't that it's reason for being?

#2 It does not have a pause feature so if you step away, you have to recreate the entry each time, archaic!

#3 It's an ugly interface... where is the UX when you need it?

I find it hard to believe that Intuit can be so far behind industry standards.

Hey ParmeleID,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, and thanks for joining our family! QuickBooks Self Employed does allow invoicing for time tracking. When you save a time entry, you would need to check the little box to the left of it. Once that is done, there should be a + (Create new invoice) icon at the top of the time entry list, as seen in the screenshot below. By clicking that, it turns the time entry into an invoice.

As far as the pause feature goes, this would be an excellent idea to add to the program for future updates. I will note this and submit feedback to our Product Developers. They are always looking for ways to enhance the system. Follow our QuickBooks Blog for more information to keep up to date with the latest features and changes.

Let me know if you have any other questions! I will do my best to assist you here. Take care for now.

Thank you for your reply.

I found the invoicing feature, thank you. Suggest they make it more obvious like a Button that says "Invoice from Time".

Okay, I still can't use it, though, because it produces a non-editable ugly mess that doesn't allow me to Invoice by Project, which is what my clients need. Because I bill by Projects, that field should be easy enough to integrate into a sort feature. For example, in Freshbooks, I could invoice fully detailed by day, by Project and by Project summary.

To get what I needed, I had to export, massage in Excel and then manually put into Project format. It took me extra time to invoice this way instead of click of a button.

I sure hope Intuit gets this time tracker up-to-speed. The awesome time trackers are out there, please COPY them!

Thanks! I decided to keep my Freshbooks account for time tracking and invoicing and Quickbooks for the transactions and reporting. The combo is just what I need since in the QB version I have, tracking and invoicing is weak and with Freshbooks their reporting and transaction prospects are unreliable.

I just reached out to customer support. Unfortunately all of the steps suggested above are pointless (and I have spent time trying them)/ The option to "save to invoice" is not a feature supported on Quickbooks Self Employed at this point in time.
