Is there a way to customize the bank accounts on the dashboard? I need to remove 2 and add 3. The help docs of "uncheck parent" did not work. Ideas?

The 2 I want to remove are one account that we just closed and petty cash which is always the same amount. I'd like to add 3 accounts receivable accounts.

It's a pleasure to have you here, @dlwilla5693. Let me share with you some details about adding and removing accounts in the dashboard.

The Bank accounts, regardless if they have a live bank feed connection or not, it will show up on your Dashboard as long as the type is either Cash at the bank and in hand or Credit Card. Other account types won't show up, such as Accounts Receivable, Fixed asset, etc.

To remove the account, you can either disconnect or make this inactive in the Chart of Accounts. Take note that when you disconnect, QuickBooks deletes transactions that still need to be categorized in the For Review tab. While inactivating an account will change your balance.

That said, I recommend reaching out to your accountant. This is to make sure the change is right for you.

To disconnect an account, simply follow these steps below:

  1. Go to the Banking menu
  2. Choose the Banking tab.
  3. Click the tile for the bank account.
  4. Select the pencil ✎ icon, then click Edit account info.

  5. Choose the Disconnect this account on save checkbox.
  6. Once done, click Save and Close.

When you're ready to make an account inactive, here's what you need to do:

  1. Go to the Settings  menu.
  2. Click Chart of accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to delete.
  4. Click the Action ▼ dropdown and select Make inactive.

If you wish to add an account, you can simply connect your bank to QuickBooks Online. Once done, this will automatically show in the dashboard.

To know more about the functionality of the dashboard, feel free to review this article: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online. It also includes steps on how to set up your company and manage users.

That didn't work.  The inactive worked but I have a petty cash account that is not in the banking so does not have the option to disconnect on save.  Yet it still appears on the dashboard.  I want to add other accounts to the dashboard but they are not bank accounts.  Thank you.

It's good to have you back, dlwilla5693.

I'm here to share additional information you need on petty cash account in QuickBooks Online.

The only way to not show it on the Dashboard is to make it inactive. Here are the steps:

  1. Navigate the Accounting tab in the left panel.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Under the Action column, click on the View register drop-down menu.
  4. Choose to Make inactive.

By following these steps, you can no longer see the Petty Cash account on your Dashboard.

You can learn more details on how petty cash works by checking out this link: Set up and use petty cash.
