I know a way to display the invoice number for a bill when printing your paper check, @Lpollock

To do this, you can add the invoice number on the Memo field when creating the check. Here's how:

  1. Go to the +New button and select Check.
  2. Fill in the necessary details in the form.
  3. Scroll down and look for the Memo field. Once found, you can enter the invoice number.
  4. Click Print Check.
  5. Tick the boxes of the checks that you want to print. Then, select Preview and print
  6. In the Print preview window, you'll see the entered invoice number in the PDF file of your check.

For additional help, you can visit these supplementary articles:

In case you want to email your bills and receipts to get them into QuickBooks Online, you can check out this article for guidance: Email receipts and bills to QuickBooks Online.

I'm still here to back you up if you have any other concerns besides including the invoice number when printing a check. Just leave a comment below. Stay safe!

Thank you but that is way too labor intensive. I expect QBO to be more user friendly than the desktop version and in the desktop version there is a setting in the preferences to have an invoice number populate the memo on the checks you print....I also print checks from the 'pay bills' button.

I do appreciate your detailed reply though!

Have a nice day!

I acknowledge your preference in making your experience easier with QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Lpollock.

Since QBO is different from QuickBooks Desktop, there are differences in how we can create transactions within. Although they share the same purpose of keeping and managing your accounting records, they are terms, or features that don't work the same in each other.

On the other hand, our goal is to meet the diverse needs of businesses. Thus, I suggest forwarding this to our team of product developers, who can evaluate its feasibility for future updates based on the level of demand. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under the Profile column, select Feedback.
  3. Share your suggestion, then click Next.

To keep your records accurate, you can visit this article to record bill payments if you have already paid for it: Enter and manage bills and bill payments in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you about entering bills or any QuickBooks transactions to help manage your account. I'm always available to lend an extra than for help. Stay safe!
