Is there a way to setup a custom field for a customer that would come up when creating an invoice?

We have sales tax exemption certificates that a customer may have for a certain job. We would like to be able to setup an alert that would show when invoicing the customer.

Is there a way to setup a custom field for a customer that would come up when creating an invoice?

Good day, barb@americancon.

Yes, we can set up a tax exemption for a customer profile and custom field. However, the alert option is unavailable in QuickBooks. For now, I'll make sure that you can set up a tax-exempt customer.

Here's how:

  1. Click Sales on the left menu and go to the Customers tab.
  2. Choose a customer profile and click Edit.
  3. In the Customer Information window, go to the Tax info tab.
  4. Make sure to remove the checkmark in the This customer is taxable box.
  5. Enter the Exemption details.
  6. Click Save.

Or we can set a default 0% tax code for your tax-exempt customer:

  1. In the Customer information window, go to the Tax info tab.
  2. Mark the This customer is taxable box.
  3. Choose a 0% tax code in the Default tax code field. You can create one if necessary.
  4. Enter the Exemption details.
  5. Click Save.

I understand your reply, but it does not answer my question.  I am not wanting to setup a customer as exempt from sales tax.  I am wanting to setup an exemption for a JOB a customer is doing that the state has issued a sales tax exemption for.  Completely different from a customer being tax exempt.

I did note that under one set of answers it does say that Quickbooks does not have alerts available at this time.  That pretty much answers my question.  Quickbooks cannot help me.
