Job Profitability Report

I cannot create a report in QB Online that is similar to the Job Profitability Detail report from QB Desktop. I've been playing around with what QB Online offers and it just doesn't provide the data like the Job Profitability report from QB Desktop. Currently I'm running both online and desktop parallel for the sole purpose of the Job Profitability report and being able to see all my products/services laid out. The work around for the Project Profitability report just gives me a ton of columns (versus rows) that's difficult to navigate. I don't understand how a report that was so easy to run and so useful is now gone with nothing comparable.

Job Profitability Report

I understand the importance of being able to view the same transaction details in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) when running the Job Profitability report using QuickBooks Online (QBO). I have insights about this.

It's important to note that while both are accounting software that processes data, due to the uniqueness and complexity of QBDT, QBO reports may not pull up the same data. Currently, we are unable to see a project profitability report that shows the products/services used in a project, but we can pull up two different reports. In your case, you can run a Project Profitability summary in QBO to show the customer, revenue, costs, profit, and profit margin of a specific project, and you can run a Sales by Customer Detail report to show the product/service being utilized. To proceed, follow the steps below on how:

Run a Project Profitability Summary

  1. In Reports, select Project Profitability Summary.
  2. Filter the date in the Report period.
  3. You may also modify the report in the Customize tab.
  4. After that, hit Run report.

Pull up a Sales by Customer Detail

  1. From the Reports, choose Sales by Customer Detail.
  2. Filter the date in the Report period.
  3. To Add a filter, click Filter and modify the following filter options then hit Add filter.
  4. To have a copy of the report, hit Save.

After that, note that you may also export the reports in Excel to consolidate the data from there.

On the other hand, take a look at the following articles. This offers valuable insights to effectively manage projects within QBO, enabling you to better streamline your business operations:

Job Profitability Report

Hi there, @klantz1.

I understand the significance of having access to corresponding transaction details in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) and QuickBooks Online (QBO) for generating the Job Profitability report. However, both software programs have their own features and intricacies, which means that QBO reports may not display the same information as QBDT. Currently, we don't have a report that exhibits the products or services involved in a project, but we can still produce two distinct reports.

To handle this, you can create a Project Profitability Summary in QBO, which will show the customer, revenue, costs, profit, and profit margin for a particular project. Then, you can generate a Sales by Customer Detail report that will reveal which product/service is being used. To proceed with this, you can follow what my colleague provided above.

Additionally, you can also learn how to memorize the reports to save them for later.

If you have any further concerns about creating the reports, please don’t hesitate to reach out again. We're here to ensure your business needs are met.

Job Profitability Report

I don't think you understand how big of deal this is to a business that needs to know how much money they are making or loosing from a job.  Why would a company spend so much money with Quickbooks? I can show you where we just paid over $12k for QBO with Knowify but because they don't do payroll they can't do acutual reports on job profitability.  Plus we just spent over $8k with QBD this year to keep our records because the transition has been a shxx show.  Now you are telling me after all of the hype telling me to switch, I can't get the reports out of QBO I need to run my business efficiently.  If you have knowledge at all on how these reports work you know there is no way we can run 2 seperate reports and put them together on the same spreadsheet in a time efficient matter to get the information we need.  Why do you even have a report called Job Profitability in QBO?  Anyone that switched should be outraged at this! You can't run your company this way!  If QBO wasn't ready you shouldn't have pushed it to the QBD Enterprise customers.  The loss of time is unbelievable and trust me my time is valueable.  So please do not lecture me about how the systems are different.  We have been told that QBO is supposed to be better! I am asking for some help here from someone on the QBO team to work to make it better!  Please do not tell me to live with it! That is not acceptable!

Job Profitability Report

I've been communicating with my QB rep to find a work around for this but it's just not the same. The original Job Profitability report was so clear and concise. Having to run two separate reports or make do is frustrating.

klantz1...Did you ever get the job reporting you were looking for? I am considering switching to Online but am afraid I will lose the ability to do job costing.
