Journal Entries Shifting Column Lines & General Frustrations

This is my third attempt at posting this because this forum site crashed the first two times. Wonderful.

When I try to write journal entries, the columns shift as I move/type and causes the account line to become basically hidden unless I am constantly adjusting the width. If I make the account column wide to try to avoid this, it starts doing it in the opposite direction causing the name & description columns to disappear. What can I do to make sure my column widths stay locked and stop shifting.

I am extremely frustrated because this is not an issue I have on QuickBooks Desktop. In fact, none of the problems that exist on QBO happen on QBDT. If you are going to strong-arm everyone, and force us to all shift to QBO as you end support for QBDT in pursuit of endless profits- make sure the program WORKS.

Stop pushing out unfinished updates with bugs, stop changing things overnight. Stop removing extremely important tools like Grand Total columns and Batch Entering, and stop hiding critical features behind higher subscription tiers that clients don't really have an interest in paying for because they don't always understand why firms with many other clients might need Batch Entering!!!!

Also, if anyone at Intuit could give a reasonable explanation as to why in 2025, you're still "aiming for more or less 10 second load times" and acting like that is in anyway acceptable, that would be greatly appreciated.

Journal Entries Shifting Column Lines & General Frustrations

Hi, Charlie_1029. I appreciate the detailed feedback provided, as it helps us understand the challenges you're experiencing. Transitioning to QuickBooks Online (QBO) comes with an adjustment period, and it's clear that certain features have been important to your workflows.

I understand how the shifting column widths when creating journal entries are affecting your work. In QBO, column widths are designed to adapt to different screen resolutions and data entry.

I can see that having the option to set fixed widths for consistency improves navigation. While this is unavailable, I recommend sharing your suggestions and ideas with our product development team. In the meantime, you can adjust the browser’s zoom settings to view all the information.

I also hear your concerns about the differences between QBDT and QBO. Both are designed differently to cater to varying business needs. We recognize that not being able to access this functionality you're used to has been a challenge for you.

As you noted, the Batch Enter feature is exclusive to QBO Advanced. The tiered approach is intended to match the varying requirements of businesses at different levels.

On the other hand, the Grand Total column isn't available. However, you can still find most reports displaying total amounts at the bottom of the page. Alternatively, exporting data to Excel offers flexibility for further formatting.

Lastly, the most-used pages are expected to load in 10 seconds, and we regularly monitor system performance to meet that goal. We're also continually working to ensure updates are rolled out with an ongoing focus on streamlining functionality and minimizing disruptions.

If you have any other questions or would like assistance with any of the features you mentioned, feel free to reply here.
