Migrating from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Enterprise

I recently switched from QuickBooks Enterprise to QB Online. It was not working out for us at all. I have followed the instructions to switch back to QuickBooks Enterprise but now the Balance sheet from QB Enterprise does not match the Balance sheet from QBO. How do I figure out what is wrong. I used the exportqbodatatoqbdt to migrate the data. It took several hours. The Profit and Loss Report matches but not the balance sheet. Please help me. I am stumped.

RE: I recently switched from QuickBooks Enterprise to QB Online. It was not working out for us at all.

That's not surprising as you went from the most full-featured version of QuickBooks to the least.

I don't think you'll be able to fully get back to what you had in Enterprise. Much is lost when you "round trip" like this. It might be better to go back to your original Enterprise file and then reenter data.

Migrating from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Enterprise

Hello there, @tcberry22.

Let me share information about migrating from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

There are instances that reports don't match when migrating from QBO to QBDT due to export limitations and the use of unsupported versions of Internet Explorer.

Here's what you can do to fix this:

  1. On QuickBooks Desktop, go to File, and select Close company.
  2. Go back and try to convert your file again. Sometimes converting a second time can fix this problem.
  3. After it finishes, check the Profit and Loss reports again. If they still don’t match, enter manual adjustments to fix the issue.

You can read more information in this article: Move your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

When you say to try converting the file again, do you mean using the migrate tool? The profit and loss reports are correct. It's the balance sheet that is incorrect. The checking account balance is the main one that I'm concerned about.

Thank you for coming back to the Community, tcberry22.

It's concerning that the Balance Sheet report from the desktop program doesn't match with the one in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'm here to assist you in ensuring the data on the financial statement is correct.

If you switch from QBO to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you might see changes in the appearance of your books. This happens because of export limitations and unsupported versions of Internet Explorer.

After exporting your company, compare the Balance Sheet reports from QBDT and QBO. Make sure to set the accounting method to the accrual basis.

If there's a discrepancy in the report, convert your file again using the migration tool. Keep in mind that the process may take some time to complete.

You can find more information about how the migration tool works in this article: QuickBooks Desktop Migration Tool FAQ. It provides answers to commonly asked questions about the utility.

Once completed review the Balance Sheet reports again. If you continue to get the same result, enter a manual adjustment to rectify the issue.

Moreover, these resources provide a comprehensive list of tasks that you'll have to complete after converting from both programs. Make sure to check out each link below for detailed instructions:

If you require more information about the migration process or have any additional queries regarding how to rectify the data in your financial reports, feel free to let me know in the comments below. I'm here to help and offer the necessary guidance. Have a good one, @tcberry22

When did you convert data to QB Online? Last year?

December of 2023

I did a second migrate with the same results. I don't know what manual adjustments to make. Most of the line items match. The ones that don't seem to be an inactive checking account, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Just the main ones that matter!

Why not use the latest backup file for December 2023? You just need to convert data from 1/1/2024 from QBO and then use the converted file in QB Desktop going forward. If you don't need the Enterprise edition, you can purchase a 3rd party service to downgrade data to QB Desktop Pro/Premier/Mac.

So, is there a way to just add the data from QBO from Dec. 2023 to current to the QB Enterprise backup from 12/8/23? There are over 1,000 transactions or I would do it manually.

You can use a migration tool. TP Exporter for Online and TP Importer for Desktop

I can help you with adding data to your backup, tcberry22.

As per 4Gal, you can use a third-party app or a migration tool to do this. You can find such apps in the QuickBooks app store. You can either search for a specific app in the search bar or explore different apps by selecting any dropdown on the left side of the page.
