Buy nowPlease someone tell me how to get out of this black hole that is modern view. My P & L will not sort correctly. I want it sorted to match my chart of accounts. You would not think that would be a big ask since I would assume probably 90% of QBO customers would want the same. I do not want to redo all of my financials and reports that I send out. Our budget and everything else is sorted by our chart of account numbers and QBO refuses to be normal and allow the same. Is this a way to get people to upgrade to some other version? I have QBO Online Plus. Someone give me some good news and tell me that there is way around this.
Hi there, Christy.
I understand how essential it is to have the option to sort the details in your Profit and Loss report, just as you can rearrange items in your Chart of accounts. While the Modern View offers simplified actions to help maximize efficiency and complete tasks, the option to sort accounts in that specific view is currently unavailable. This is due to the feature prioritizing an alphabetical sort by account name, which ignores the numerical order or the specific grouping you have in your COA.
Since the option to switch back to the Classic View is not possible, I recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. This way, they can evaluate your suggestion and consider it for future program updates. Here’s how:

So you are saying that QB decided that they don't care how a customer wants to sort their reports for their financials and just did the most illogical way they could think of? In what world would you create reports that a paying customer cannot sort the way they want? I am not sure what "account name" it sorts by because there is no rhyme or reason to the way it is sorting my expense accounts. Clearly, the numbers make no difference, but it's not sorting by account name either. It's just basically doing whatever it wants, which does not line up with the reports we have been using and templates we have used in our organization for more than 5 years. My accounts are being sorted as follows: dues and memberships, professional fees, auto, admin, computer software and hardware, etc. Tell me how that is sorted by account name??? What pattern is that following????
I assume someone who never uses the software is making these decisions because this was probably one of the worst decisions you could have ever made. It would not have been hard to just leave the option for classic view but you can't leave well enough alone.
@Kurt_M as an employee of Quickbooks, don't YOU have an option to send feedback to your Product Development Team? As a moderator of this message board, you have access to all of the complaints about the Modern View since its launch years ago. What do moderators do when you see customers make the exact same complaint again and again and again to ensure it gets resolved?
Many of us have already submitted our feedback to the Product Development Team requesting that they bring back Classic View and give the option to make it the default and have seen absolutely zero evidence that our feedback has been received at all. Where can paying customers who have submitted our feedback see what exactly the Product Development Team is working on and if/when they plan on listening to us at all? And please do not link me to the Quickbooks message board that is filled with spam and scam posts. Please show where we can see actual replies.
