Thanks for joining us here in the Community, @userelizabeth2.

You've come to the right place for assistance with QuickBooks. I'd gladly show you how to edit the amount receivable in QuickBooks Online.

This can be done by editing the products and services they're invoicing to customers. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
  2. Hover over the Sales tab in the left navigation menu and click Product and Services.
  3. Locate the item you'd like to change the account for and select Edit on the right.
  4. In the edit panel, you can make changes to the income account for that particular product or service.
  5. Choose Save and close when you're finished.

However, it is not possible to change the default AR account to another AR account.

I hope this information helps you. If you have any further questions or concerns regarding the accounts receivable in QuickBooks Online, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Have a great day!

James_AL -

thank you for responding to my question.  Unfortunately, the proposed solution does not address what I am trying to do.

I don't need to change the income account.  I want to change the receivable account.  Why don't you allow different types of products or services to attach to different receivables accounts?

Also, It is clear that these invoices USED to go to a different receivables account, but something has changed recently.  When and why did this feature change?

We appreciate your reply and for sharing additional details, userelizabeth2.

Please note that QuickBooks Online is designed for medium-sized businesses, which typically require simpler accounting needs compared to larger enterprises.

Although you can create multiple A/R accounts, the system will only use the default receivable account when creating sales transactions.

As a workaround, you can create a journal entry to move the amounts or balances from one A/R to another. Here's an article as a guide: Create Journal Entries In QuickBooks Online.

You may also consider sending a product suggestion or providing feedback about being able to use multiple A/R accounts in QuickBooks Online. The engineering team reviews customer input when planning new updates.

For instructions on how to submit suggestions from your account, check out this article:  How Do I Submit Feedback?
