Hello there, @ponyexpress01.
Let's sort the list or filter the status and date of your invoices on the Invoices tab in QuickBooks Online (QBO), so you can go through your most recent ones and manage them accordingly.
The QBO system has built-in filter or search tools to help you easily locate certain transactions. Based on your description, you may have unintentionally clicked the sort dropdown arrow beside either the Date or No. column. That's why your invoice list jumped backward (from oldest (2020) to newest).
With that being said, let's go to the Invoices tab and make sure the Date and No. sort dropdown arrows are pointing downward. This way, you'll get to view and start managing your invoices from the newest (today) to the oldest ones. Here' show:
On the other hand, you can also utilize the Status and Date filters in the Invoices tab to get to today's dated invoices. Please see the screenshot below for your reference.
Once everything is all set, you may also want to check out this article as your reference to guide you in personalizing your invoices and other sales forms in QBO: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
Please keep me posted on how it goes in the comments below. If you have other concerns about managing invoices and income transactions in QBO, I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @ponyexpress01.
I'm suddenly having this same problem, but with an older version of QB. I don't have an invoice list sort function to edit in my version. I have 'create invoices' which used to page sequentially back from the current newest as I clicked 'previous'. Now it goes back to 2003 and I have to click through 20 years of invoices to get to the recent ones. I can't find anywhere to change the order of this search sequence. (QB2000)
