I have been utilizing a 3rd party application to process invoices, sometimes fifty at a time, for the past four years. It was a very expensive and time consuming process to have a 3rd party application created to process our invoices to be pushed into Quickbooks Online. Quickbooks Online promotes 3rd party development. This update has disrupts the 3rd party integrations by breaking an interface that worked. There are absolutely no improvements. This updated module is basically beta, lacking features we have enjoyed for many years and much better usability. Please immediately return the opt out ability back to this module and stop the pain you are inflecting on the QBO Community!
No not only did they apparently not do UAT but they also didn't do any regression testing for backward compatibility?
What a joke.
I would be irate if I were jeff95
TAKE DOWN THE "NEW" FORMS AND NEVER TRY THIS AGAIN. What a bunch of garbage.
Thanks for all the feedback. If you agree please click the Kudos button. They may not listen to one of us but they have to listen to all of us!
I feel like every change that is made just breaks more. There are so many broken features, this update broke more (Send Later is a field on invoices that is not able to be set with the new layout).
I couldn't agree more. Do you know of a good alternative to Quickbooks? I'm ready to switch.
Yes Zoho Books. Quickbooks employees are all about changing things so they can get raises and promotions. All support is offshore. Zoho Books is cheaper. Entire company is offshore however they have good tech support. Not like quickbooks sending us to some forum to submit “feedback.” I’m going to have to lose a few weeks getting everything set up in zoho books like I have it set up in QuickBooks, but it’s time this was the final straw for me. They had changed the invoices before and they keep changing them. It’s so tiring.
Do we have a solution yet to the custom fields showing back on the mobile app? This is so inconvenient it’s been over a week that these complaints have poured in.. when will we see changes? If no changes soon, switching to another software will be the option!
We don't want you to have this kind experience, @llacuesta. I'll provide you with some information about invoices in the mobile app.
The investigation about the custom fields with your invoices not appearing on the mobile app is still ongoing. Our team is working diligently to find a resolution as soon as possible.
You'll get an email notification once we resolve the issue if you have reached our Customer Support and they added you to our investigation on the custom fields not appearing when creating invoices in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app as mentioned by AlverMarkT above.
For more information on reaching out to our Customer Support, as well as support hours and available contact methods, check this article: QuickBooks Online Support.
Additionally, here's an article that provides information about the new estimate and invoice layout, as well as the features currently unavailable in the new experience: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
If you have any further concerns or questions about invoices, please feel free to post here in the Community. We're always here to help and answer your questions.
Please don't forget about the invoice templates that this post was originally about. There are at least 20 to 30 replies all asking QB the same thing. Please either rollback the update so we can still use our customer templates as a default when importing invoices (we don't all enter invoices one at a time) or either fix the issue and let people choose what they want to do as we had the ability to do before the update.
I am able to click the right panel with all the payment information and it reverts to the old layout.
This needs to roll back I can't even edit tax locations on invoice to make sure they are right for my sale tax report.
I am finding the online version does not EVER take into account the customer's tax status. It doesn't seem to matter if you make them exempt and even include their account number and say why they're exempt. It assigns tax anyway. Same with late fees. I mark certain companies exempt from late fees. That doesn't seem to matter either. I have to go back constantly and take them off.
I wanted to share an update. This week when I imported my invoices in via Transaction Pro to QB Online, the template was back defaulting to my custom template as it should since that is what I have set as the default. So no more going in and changing the template from "modern" to my custom template. Thank you for fixing this issue with the last update! Please, in the future, include this issue in your regression testing before releasing another update if you would.
Thank you
Hi there, paul1971

The entire new template is a CLUSTER!!! Disaster! Sends an estimate to a customer under “invoice”
if the customer “accepts” an invoice the hyperlink in the email will now take them to a “Fully paid” invoice and they have not submitted a single payment.
TRASH
Paul
IT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE… if you click on the hyperlink your customer gets, it will direct them to new MODERN template even though what’s attached in the email is your custom template.
you think it fixed it but it did not.
This is a forum for professional interactions. All caps is screaming. If you have a suggestion contact QB. Do not contact me in this manner again.
This isn't the experience we want you to have, @info-blueelectri. Let me route you to the right support team to assist you further on this matter.
Regarding your concern about the fact that when you accept an estimate, it results in a "Fully paid" invoice, even though no payment has been submitted, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support team to further investigate this behavior with the new invoice.
Our support representatives have specialized tools, like the ability to share your screen, to take a closer look to determine what's causing the issue. They'll also be able to create a ticket if need be, for investigation.
Here's how to get in touch with the team:
Our support team is available from Monday to Friday, 6 AM to 6 PM PT, and Saturday 6 AM to 3 PM PT for Plus, Essentials, and Simple Start. Advanced support is available anytime.
Additionally, please know that with the new invoice experience in QuickBooks Online (QBO), even if you send an invoice with your custom template, it will be viewed in the modern template. This change has been rolled out to provide a consistent user experience for everyone.
I've also included a couple of detailed resources about working with invoices which can be handy moving forward:
Don't hesitate to send a reply if you have further questions about managing invoices in QBO. We're always here in the Community to help.
All of these replies are absolutely USELESS… you think we don’t know how to contact customer service after being a full suite Quickbooks customer for over 3 years!?!? The latest incompetent customer agent we called read some junk off a screen and said “… the new template is operating exactly as the engineers designed it to… would you like a discount on your monthly subscription…?”
DO NOT REPLY TO OUR POSTS WITH USELESS POSTS such as this. GET IT FIXED AND PUT IT BACK HOW IT WAS! You should NOT FORCE US TO USE THIS NEW TEMPLATE THAT CANNOT BE CUSTOMIZED AS THE ONE IT REPLACED!
I used to recommend this platform for to literally everyone and we are all in the same toilet now… but already a few in our network have swapped out to ZOHO and WAVE and HOUSECALL
paul1971 perhaps it has been fixed with 3rd party apps like Transaction Pro, it ihas not been fixed when importing via a CSV file. All imported invoices get the Modern look even if the Standard is set as default.
Absolutley horrible.
Good morning
Let me clarify my statement. We are importing in via transaction pro and when we send invoices out via email they are sent using the PDF attachment option, not a URL/Link in the email that takes the customer to the invoice. The way we are doing is allowing our template choice to flow through to both the internal view as well as the PDF created of the invoice. I have verified this with our process for the past 2 or 3 weeks as we are BCC on all invoices sent.
Called QB customer service to mention the below MAJOR problem
the reason we loved using QB before this horrific update to the didactic use of their MODERN template, is because we could seamlessly send estimates, convert them to invoices and then track progress payments.
With that being said, the latest update seems to have fixed the invoices now, where if you select your custom template it will send that to the customer and even in the hyperlink in the email will still direct the customer to your custom invoice template
the MAJOR problem remains with ESTIMATES…
1) we select/use our custom estimate template
2) email goes out to the customer as an INVOICE
3) if the customer click on the “view invoice” hyperlink it will direct them to a page allowing them to accept or decline the estimate
4) if they click on “view estimate” on the webpage the hyperlink takes them to it will give them the new MODERN template of the estimate and NOT our CUSTOM estimate template
5) lastly if the customer click “accept” once the refresh the page and click on the “view estimate” again NOT only does it again remain on the MODERN template but now says FULLY PAID on the estimate!
needs major fixing ASAP
Agree the new look sucks. Who said there was a problem that needs fixing?

I can tell you who. It's definitely not the actual paying customers. It's the insecure middle management at Intuit who feel like they have to justify their employees' salaries. If the Quickbooks product stays the same, then why are they paying to have development teams on their books? They obviously don't understand all the quality assurance and backend work that goes into just maintaining software like Quickbooks, so they think if they're not seeing constant innovation and changes, then the development teams are being paid to do nothing. It's the typical sign of insecure and ignorant management.
Since Intuit has revealed through years of inefficient changes with these these new invoice being the final straw that they have unqualified people making decisions with absolutely zero understanding of their customers' needs, I've already convinced my biggest employers to move to different accounting software that is actually developed for accounting.
