Join nowAfter switching from QBO to QBD, I'm frustrated that I can't get simple numbers. If I want to see how many orders came in on a given day, I have to count by hand. I tried creating a report and looked to see if there was an option to number the rows, but nothing. It's such a small thing.
QBO had a filter option for All Sales, where I could see the order on any given day, and it automatically counted. Any help?
This is not the experience I want you to feel, @DebElle.
I want to ensure that you can run a report with the total orders in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, you don't need to count the numbers manually.
Let's pull up the Sales by Item Detail report or Open Sales Order by Item, then customize it. These reports contain various information like Quantity, Backorder, Purchase date, Num, Type, etc.
Here's how:

You can also click the Memorize button beside the Print button. This will help you save time since it automatically updates every time there are newly added transactions. For more information, visit this article: Understand reports.
Additionally, please browse these pages about managing customer's transactions, payments, sales forms, and other related matters.
Let me know in the comment section if you other questions in accessing reports. I'm glad to help. Keep safe!
I've been down this road before, searching in the different "Sales By" options. It gives me a total of the product or service. But if I processed 10 orders in a single day, and each customer ordered 10 items, I would see 100 as the total; I want to see the number 10 because that shows me how many orders actually came in. Can I not do that?
Thanks for getting back to us, @DebElle.
The Sales by Item Detail reports show you each item you sell to your customer and the break down by transactions. If you only have 10 items that came in, it’ll base on how much quantity you entered. Thus, it shows the total of items per transaction.
I’ve added a screenshot below for your visual reference.
As a workaround, you can export the report and adjust the total base on your preference. Click the Excel drop-down menu and from the top menu of the report and select Create New Worksheet. You can also check this article for more details: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks for your reply but that wasn't really what I was asking. I was using that as an example. I don't want to see how many items I sold. I just want to see how many sales orders came in on a given day. If I had 95 orders placed yesterday, where do I see that number 95?
Hey there, DebElle.
