P&L report excluding certain classes but including not-specified

We use classes to segment projects and different lines of business. However, there are many corporate transactions for which a class is not specified. I'd like to run a P&L that includes transactions with certain class designations AS WELL AS those for which the Class is Unspecified. I don't see a way to do this other than by generating a P&L for all classes, exporting it to Excel, deleting the classes I don't need, and sum up the results. This is a huge pain and has to be re-done every time there's new data.

Question 1: Is there a way to generate a P&L and filter by certain classes AND unspecified?

Question 2: If the answer to question 1 is No, then I suppose I could go in and add a Class to all transactions for which class is currently unspecified. Is there a way to do this in bulk? I can't take the time to individually edit thousands of transactions that have no Class specified.

P&L report excluding certain classes but including not-specified

Thank you for letting us know of your concern about how to generate your report with class-designated and unspecified class transactions in your Profit and Loss, @Yo_Be_Low2.

Currently, this feature isn't available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). When generating a profit and loss report, you can only choose a specific class filter to run through in customizing reports in QuickBooks Online.

Indeed, you are correct about adding transactions whose classes are currently unspecified. However, there is no way in which you can generate all unspecified classes in bulk. To merge the specified and unspecified classes, manually add, and delete transactions with unspecified classes that are not included, then export them to Excel.

For now, I encourage you to submit feature feedback to our development team. Rest assured that we're going to review your feedback in the next software update, subject to the number of users with the same issue.

Here's how you can submit feedback:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter the product suggestions that you want QuickBooks Online to consider in the next update.
  4. Click Next to submit feedback.

Moreover, check this article for a list of custom reports in QBO, along with the steps on how to generate them: Common custom reports in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have additional questions about running your report by classes in QBO. I'm always here to help.

Sharing additional details to your concern helps us align our understanding, Yo_Be_Low2. Currently, the option to add a Class to multiple transactions that don't have one at once is unavailable.

Nevertheless, we would love to hear your ideas about having this functionality in the program, and I suggest submitting feedback to our Product Development Team. Rest assured, they will review it and consider adding it for future updates.

You can follow the steps outlined by my colleague above to send your recommendation. You can also review our QuickBooks Feature Requests website for any updates on your request.

Moreover, this guide can give you information about organizing customer and vendor transactions within the program: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by project in QuickBooks Online.
