Buy nowTLDR: Please do not retire Classic View reports
Sorry to make a negative post, but:
As part of an account restructuring activity, I just changed a bunch of account numbers...and now "Modern View" is generating an irretrievably, shockingly incorrect balance sheet. Idk if this is a server-side cache issue or what, but it's ridiculous. Thankfully, the "Classic View" reports the correct information.
After reading YEARS of complaints about the Modern View reports, I'm thinking it is a failed endeavor. Frankly, even with correct data, the reports are clunky to use, frustrating to navigate, and unreliable technically. But now? Piling on the notion of unreliable data reporting? What could be worse?
There is almost no support track for buggy software...so I don't expect anyone to respond. Also, fyi QBO help staff: please do not respond with the usual, "send a ticket", "clear your cache", "watch this video", or "backup your books". I already go ANYWHERE BUT HERE to find answers about the issues I have with this product. Heck, even posting here is near impossible with all the inane login, navigation, posting errors, and system errors. It's absurd. You're probably losing half of your feedback to your buggy posting platform.
My post here is simply to register an appeal to keep Classic View reports.
Thank you.
LOL! I totally agree with this community post!!
I've been an Advanced Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor for more than 7 years, and a founding member of this Community Forum, contributing since 2018. I've been struggling to log in to my own Community profile for nearly 2 years now and spent a few hours troubleshooting this myself this week.
I honestly feel like I’m the only OG ProAdvisor still posting in the forum right now — even @lynda , a devoted ProAdvisor CHAMP and dear friend of mine for years, doesn't appear to have posted here since 2024! I’m guessing not many people can log in right now.
With that said, I’m here to help!!!
I also strongly agree that the “modern” reports are undesirable and am constantly switching back to Classic View — not only because they are 100% better in style and format, but because they’re dynamic, easier to group, filter, customize, use, and save. The Modern version actually slows down accountant productivity considerably. They’re just not pretty — too skinny, undynamic, unmodern, and hard to use consistently and harmoniously.
I don’t feel like this post is negative at all. In fact, it’s candid, sincere, desperate, and hopeful at the same time. I’m so grateful they took the time to post it.
I can say with absolute confidence that Intuit truly cares about our feedback, and when it reaches the right leaders, positive changes happen — the kind that help us fall back in love with QBO again.
We all want to! But the frequent, unwanted UI changes make it challenging. This is accounting and financial reporting — we don’t need the mobile app developers redesigning the desktop UI at the cost of functionality.
As a 34-year veteran business accountant and Intuit software user of every version ever made, I can tell you with confidence: we don’t work on our phones!
Many of my clients have called since the recent UI updates were pushed into production — and it’s a serious concern when they can’t even convert an estimate to an invoice and get paid!
Let’s all keep using those “Feedback ?” links and make sure our voices reach the right ears. I’ve heard back from Intuit developers before — and I know they care.

Finally made it back into this QB Support forum (which seems to require clearing cache or using an incognito browser window to ever work). Anyway...
It seems the incorrect balance sheet reported above was caused by my use of the Excel Spreadsheet Sync (SS) Add-in. I've been able to duplicate the error, which seems to occur when updates to existing account names/numbers occur simultaneously in both parent and child accounts. Idk if this is due to a "mis-ordering" of the name/number updates on the backend, commitment of a single, large, distributed transaction as multiple transactions, or an error on my part to not simultaneously update each account with both its new name and its new parent name (which should not be the case...and should throw an error). Anyway, whatever it is, it makes SS a bit brittle and untrustworthy to the point that I've abandoned use of it. That's unfortunate since there is no other efficient way to update hundreds of accounts. The only other option I've found is to use browser-based search-and-replace plugins that are html textbox->submit/post aware.
If anyone is at Intuit is interested, I'd be happy to supply more details of the error. There are other weird artifacts related to the aforementioned update issue that cause the QBO COA page to (seemingly) orphan subaccounts that are indeed reported as children of another account.
Also, if anyone cared to open the SS a little more and allow sorting, search and replace, and adding dummy columns (to allow filtered data to appear in contiguous rows), that would be great.
Thank you.
i’m honestly surprised no one from quickbooks has chimed in yet to “acknowledge your frustration” and remind you to submit a feedback request via the little gear icon in the top right
