@jeanieCETS

Reports > Company & Financial > Profit & Loss Standard or Detail > Customize Report > Filters > Name > Select Customer(s) in the drop-down.  Modify the date range as desired.

Profit and Loss by Customer and by date range **DESKTOP VERSION**

@jeanieCETS  To make sure I'm understanding you right:

Are you wanting to see a P&L showing a column for each of your customers for a particular time period?

Or, are you wanting to see something more like a listing of each customer's jobs and associated profit margin for each job, totaled into blocks by customer for a particular time period?

Something else altogether?

The first one may have a workaround, but I can't think of anything that would do the second option.

For the third, may help to provide more detail; not 100% sure what you mean by your wording.

Profit and Loss by Customer and by date range **DESKTOP VERSION**

Let's work together to find the best solution that delivers the report that meets your business needs, jeanie. Rest assured, I'll be here to guide and support you throughout the process.

Generating a Profit and Loss report for a specific customer on a particular date is not possible. As a workaround, you can create two separate Profit and Loss by Job reports: one customized by the desired date range and another by the specific customer. You can then export these reports to Excel for further analysis.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Company & Financial, then choose Profit and Loss by Job.
  3. Filter the Show columns dropdown to Customer Job. In this way, the profit margin by the customer will show.

On the other hand, you can filter the specific date range you want to show. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Company & Financial, then choose Profit and Loss by Job.
  3. Filter the Show columns dropdown to the specific date range. However, this will only display the total amount for the specific account. To view the transactions for specific customers, click the amount from the report.

If you want to customize reports based on your business needs, visit this link: Customize company and financial reports.

Once the process is complete, you can reconcile your accounts to ensure they match your real-life bank statements.

Profit and Loss by Customer and by date range **DESKTOP VERSION**

Thanks for your reply!

Examples are:

I want to see what our profit margin for a specific customer

1)  for all of 2024 or by month

2)  for as long as they've been our customer time or

3)  By each invoice number (we don't use the jobs function)

We're trying to see where we need to increase our profit margins on customers whose margins are too low.

Hope that helps...

Thanks everyone for the help!  I was hoping a report would show the profit margin PERCENTAGE too, but it's easy enough to export to Excel, then create a formula to show the percentage I want, and then share it with our sales staff.

The report I was seeking was a needed tool to help see if we needed to raise our profit margin on certain customers that weren't being charged enough....

"I was hoping a report would show the profit margin PERCENTAGE too,"

When you click 'Customize', on the Display tab, you can add a sub-column for %.

It's unfortunate that @AnaRose_Q posted "Generating a Profit and Loss report for a specific customer on a particular date is not possible."  when it clearly is possible.  It's sad how QB employees don't even understand the ability of the product they represent.  You would think an almost $14 billion company could provide adequate training and oversight to the staff that interacts directly with customers.
