I am working on Quickbooks Desktop 2023, my boss wants me to access QB advanced report writer. Just for reference I can access QBAR in a sample company.
We have added a new role called QBAR, and gave it access to quickbooks advanced reporting under file, and assigned that to my user. It still tells me to ask the admin for access??? QBAR does work in a sample company, so it is not an installation issue..
I appreciate your time and effort in writing to us today, EvanAS. I’m here to provide information regarding user access in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
To begin with, if you have been given a role that only allows access to QuickBooks Advanced Reporting (QBAR), you won't be able to perform actions outside of that scope, such as adding users or changing settings.
Please note that only Admin users can add or modify user roles. If you require additional permissions or need to assign another user, I recommend discussing this with your Admin or boss for further assistance.
For more details about user access refer to this article: QuickBooks Desktop users and restrictions.
Additionally, you can assign different data-level permissions to a user's job role. This allows you to grant access only to the specific areas of QuickBooks for the user to perform their job.
Our dedicated team is here to help and ensure a smooth experience. If you need clarification on permissions, assistance with user roles, or any other inquiries, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Yes obviously if I created a role, I have access to the admin account....
I obviously know that if only Quickbooks Advanced Report writer is selected and nothing else I can only access that.
Except it does not work, I can access QBAR in the admin account, which I DO NOT WANT TO DO. Did you even read my message "Please note that only Admin users can add or modify user roles. If you need additional permissions or need to assign another user, I recommend communicating with your Admin or boss for assistance."
I literally said I created a role, so obviously i have access to the admin user. Please read the message before replying.....
And lastly heree is the screenshot showing, the role QBAR, indeed has file access to advanced reporting.....
Please do not just skim my original message, and then tell me to use Admin. I said in original message I created a role, therefore you can assume i was using Admin... We could have skipped all this.
Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Did you encounter any error message?
Thank you, some actual advice lol will do that now !
No error message
I see that the odd behavior in the program has disrupted your workflow, EvanAS. We should delete and recreate the user to start over and ensure smooth access to QuickBooks Advanced Reporting (QBAR).
At times a user profile might get corrupted, leading to unexpected access or permission issues. In addition to what Chrea suggested, let's delete the user, create a new one, and then set the right role and permission to address your concern.
To delete the user and role:
To remove the role:
Next, add the user and set the correct access. Refer to this article for detailed instructions: Create and manage users and roles in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
Also, use the solutions in these links to manage logins and restrictions in QBDT, and to set permissions for accessing certain areas in the program:
