QBO P&L Detail report

I've been a QuickBooks Desktop (Pro) user for more than a decade and am in the process of changing to QBO Simple. Other than reconciling bank statements and sending invoices, THE MOST IMPORTANT feature for me is the P&L Detail Report.  Before making the purchase, the QB sales agent said in the chat that QBO Simple has that detail report.  Can someone tell me where to find it?  I've been searching, and I'm starting to think Eric gave me the wrong advice.

And if it is not available in QBO, is the P&L Detail report still available in the QB Desktop Pro version?

QBO P&L Detail report

Greetings, @BobinBoston.

I'm here to provide some information about opening a P&L Detail report in QuickBooks Online  (QBO).

I recognize the importance of having the option to open a P&L Detail report. However, that option is unavailable in QBO Simple Start.

For now, we can generate and customize the Transactions List by Date report so it would display the information your client needs. Let me guide you on how to do it.

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Scroll down to the For my Accountant section.
  3. Tap the Transaction List by Date report.
  4. Set the Date Range of the report.
  5. Click anywhere to refresh the report.

Also, you can view the General Ledger report. It displays a detailed report of all your income and expense transactions grouped per account. I've attached what it looks like for your reference.

Once done, combine them in one spreadsheet. To learn a bunch of ways to customize your reports in QuickBooks Online, refer to these articles:

Please let me know in the comment section if  you need further assistance with customizing your reports in the way your business needs. I'm always here to assist you. Have a wonderful day.

QBO P&L Detail report

Hi @BobinBoston ,

Rishika here from Better Reports.

I think besides this, our app Better Reports can show this easily and you can schedule it to run automatically as well. I have attached a screenshot below that shows the sample built-in Profit & Loss detail report by account.

Also, there are other built-in reports available like “Balance sheet”, “Profit and Loss by Class”, “Profit & Loss by Product”, “Profit & Loss by Customer”, etc. We can create custom reports as well, based on your business requirements.

It is also possible to filter the reports for a specific period, and as I mentioned earlier, to schedule these reports to be sent automatically to your email or Google drive at a regular cadence.

What do you think?

QBO P&L Detail report

Deb-

Thank you for your thorough response.  I've considered the issue - frankly, I think that no matter how "simple" a simple version of business accounting software is, there is no excuse for it to not do a P&L Detail report.  That is a very basic requirement for bookkeeping software.

Your fix is an interesting one, but I've decided to switch to a SaaS accounting package that does a real P&L Detail Report.  My commitment to Intuit Quickbooks has been longer than many marriages, but it's time to start a new chapter with Sage or one of the others.

Again, thanks for your reply.
