Quick Books Online: the "Quick Report" feature in the Chart of Accounts

One MAJOR PROBLEM with QB Online is when you are in Chart of Accounts and want to select a P&L account and choose "Print Report",  aka "Account QuickReport", the information displayed ONLY IS ACCRUAL BASIS INFORMATION!!!!!!  I often use this to get quick and easy views / histories of P&L accounts in various time periods to get important data for busy decisions.  I have MANY CASH BASIS CLIENTS and have been a Rent-a-CFO Accountant for OVER 30 years and have used  extensively QB almost since its inception with many of my clients.  With QB Online the only OPTION / WORK AROUND is to go to CREATE a CUSTOM REPORT with the “Transaction Detail by Account” which takes more time and steps…especially when I want to quickly look at several P&L accounts and various time periods!  QB Descktop PRO allows in the "Account QuickReport” the option of ACCRUAL or CASH BASIS.  This report needs to be setup with this same option!!!  Otherwise….the report is a MISNOMER:  QUICK REPORT!!!

Quick Books Online: the "Quick Report" feature in the Chart of Accounts

I agree with most of what you say, JBinPDX.

You're right. It's easier to view data if the option to choose either Accrual or Cash basis when pulling up the Account QuickReport is available in QuickBooks Online. I understand both platforms offer strong accounting, but there are a few key differences between QuickBooks Desktop and Online.

QBO is much easier to use and has many more integrations and time-saving invoicing automation, wherein QuickBooks Desktop offers more advanced accounting and reporting features with optional industry-specific QuickBooks versions for specific types of businesses (construction, nonprofits, manufacturing, and so on).

As a workaround, you can temporarily change your accounting method in your account setting if you want to run an Account QuickReport on a Cash basis.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.Capture.PNG
  2. Click the Advanced menu, then change the accounting method to Cash.Capture1.PNG
  3. Once done, hit Save and then Done.

This option is a fantastic addition for future product enhancement. I recommend sending your suggestion online by going to the Gear icon and selecting Feedback.

Additionally, I've added this resource to guide you if you want to personalize your report to see only the important information: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
