Buy nowI use Quickbooks 2014. No need for newer version as it does all I need.
For many years I entered Class when creating a check. It appeared on the Check form to the far right.
A few weeks ago this Class column disappeared and cannot be found. See attached screenshot.
Yes I did go to Edit > Preferences > Accounting > and check Use Classes in transactions. It was already checked.
But it still doesn't appear.
It looks like Quickbooks deliberately removed this feature in an "upgrade".
Any ideas please?

Many thanks. I checked the font size and it seemed to be OK. But you gave me an idea.
I went to Edit > Preferences and changed from Multiple Windows to Single Window.
This enabled the Check form window to display properly.
I then went back to Edit > Preferences and changed back to Multiple Windows and amazingly the Check form window still showed the Class.
No idea why this worked.
To make this extra clear.
You go to Edit then (near the bottom) Preferences, then to Desktop View. You will see two options:
View: One Window and Multiple Windows.
For some bizarre reason, toggling between them restores the Class column on checks.
Let's run the Verify and Rebuild tool to fix this, norman.
This tool scans data issues within the company file and self-resolves them. Before proceeding, please note that this may or may not work since QuickBooks 2014 is an unsupported version.
Also, create a backup copy of your company file so you can restore it if some changes occur.
Here's how to verify data:
Next, here's how to rebuild data:
If the issue persists, I recommend upgrading to the latest version. Doing so helps you add classes to your checks.
Also, personalizing your Class report in QuickBooks is a breeze. For the detailed guide, please see this article: Run Report.
Please let me know if you need further assistance tracking and managing your checks. I'm always around to help. Have a good one.
Many thanks.
I verified the data integrity and it was fine.
The problem is that the check entry form itself no longer has a column for Class.
I am still able to enter the Class as follows:
After entering the amount in the check breakdown I tab twice, this takes me to the invisible column where I can enter the Class. I cannot see what I am typing but it is being entered. If the Class doesn't exist then I am prompted to create a new one as before.
I can check later that the Class has been correctly entered.
Also previously there were two buttons under the check:
New Check
Save and Exit
These buttons also are now missing.
The workaround here is to SAVE the check at the top of the window and then close the process/ window with the top right "X".
I have tried minimizing and maximizing the window and minimizing the column on the left. Still can't get these items to appear.
So very bizarre.
I note your suggestion that I upgrade, at considerable cost, to the latest version.
My current version worked perfectly well until a few months ago when the Class column and the one to the left of it disappeared from the screen in the Check Entry form..
My computer, running Windows 7 is compatible with Quickbooks 2014 and I have been using this computer for a number of years.
I cannot understand why this feature has disappeared.
Hi there, @norman.
I hope you're having a great day! Thanks for getting back to us. I understand how beneficial the Class Tracking feature is for segments you want to keep an eye on.
Unsupported versions of QuickBooks Desktop continue to work. However, it becomes more vulnerable to errors or issues such as disappearing columns that you're experiencing.
I suggest performing a clean install of your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This helps fix company file issues. Make sure to create a backup copy of your company file before doing the process. If there are changes that occur, having a backup copy allows you to restore it to undo the changes.
Here's how to uninstall QuickBooks:
When you’re done, reinstall your QBDT.
Drop me a comment below if you have other concerns or follow-up questions. I'd be more than happy to assist you again, @norman.

It looks like you have enabled scaled up fonts / selected something other than 100% in your display preferences. This will mess QuickBooks up, at it can't handle such new-fangled advanced settings, which Windows has only had for 25 years.
If you return your display preferences to standard fonts - 100% scale, then it should work again as expected after restarting QuickBooks.

Thank you so much for the suggestion to toggle between multiple windows and one window in the preferences. The classes once again showed up on the screen. So much more helpful than the QB bots.
