Quickbooks Desktop - removing accounts

My quickbooks desktop has 20 years of information and much has changed during that time.

There are bank accounts that are no longer valid because that part of our organization started their own quickbooks under another tax id# and we now have to get their checking accounts off our books.

How do I get their bank account off my quickbooks as it is showing on the reports and it is no longer valid?

Thank you.

Quickbooks Desktop - removing accounts

Hello, pt0609.

Welcome to the Community. I can share some steps so you can turn off the old bank account in QuickBooks.

Yes, there is an option that we can deactivate the bank feeds account but it still shows in reports. Once done, the lightning bolt disappears beside the account's name in the Chart of Account list. An inactive account will still appear in your reports to make sure that your books are accurate.

Here's how:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop account
  2. Go to list.
  3. Select Chart of Accounts.
  4. Choose the accounts that you wanted to inactive.
  5. Right-click on the mouse and select Make account inactive.
  6. Click Ok.

I've also included this article that'll help you on how to make the account active, just in case if you need it in the future: Set Up Account For Bank Feeds

Please do get back on this thread, if you have questions in managing your bank accounts, I'm always here to help. Have a good one!
