When activating QuickBooks Desktop, you may get an unexpected behavior due to a problem with its background processes. I recommend downloading the QuickBooks Tools Hub and running a Quick Fix to close any open background processes. It'll run a quick repair on your program.
Here's how to download the QuickBooks Tool Hub:
- Close QuickBooks.
- Download the most recent version (1.6.0.3) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
- Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
- Follow the on-screen steps to install and approve the terms and conditions.
- When the installation is done, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
After that, follow the steps below on how you can run Quick Fix from the Tool Hub.
- Choose Program Problems from the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
- Select Quick Fix my Program.
- When the tool finishes, start QuickBooks Desktop. Then, open your data file and try to activate it.

If the issue continues to occur, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support. They have the tools to verify if the product information matches what you have. They can also help you get to a resolution quickly to activate QuickBooks. Furthermore, the activation process has a limit to prevent the license number from being simply copied and placed on a different computer. With this, only our support can verify if the license is used with the owner.
