QuickBooks Self-Employed messed up my transactions, help was no help. Some of my transactions show as numbers instead of descriptions for example 1, 54, 888

Hi, this has been a mini nightmare as I am self employed and have minimal time to deal with this. My last upload of transactions, the last three months, have some transactions as numbers, but not all. Online help was no help as they stated this was above their expertise. They booked me for a call back and no one called. I have done all of the troubleshooting, multiple times and without a live person who will call me back I don't know what else to do.

We appreciate you taking the time to go through the troubleshooting steps, Ashley35. I have some information that will help you correct your transaction details, so they display accurately in your Transactions menu.

To begin, could you please tell me how you uploaded your transactions? Was it by connecting your bank account to your QuickBooks Self-Employed account, or was it manually uploaded? Also, may I know the name of your financial institution? This way, we can provide you with specific information regarding this issue.

When manually uploading your transaction, please know that it's important to follow the given format such as the Date, Description, and Amount. If you've followed the said format, it's best to check the information under that column if it contains the correct data.

For now, you may consider excluding the uploaded transactions and then re-importing them with the correct information. Before doing this, please prepare a bank statement to ensure you can accurately exclude your transactions.

Kindly follow these steps:

Step 1: Exclude your transactions

  1. Go to the Transactions menu, hit the Account dropdown, then select the bank where you've imported your transaction.
  2. From the Date dropdown, click All.
  3. In the Date column, click the arrow beside it to sort the data. Ensure that the arrow points upwards.
  4. If the transaction is recently imported, it will be shown in bold form compared to other transactions.
  5. Tick the checkbox, then click the Exclude icon located beside with the person icon, then click Apply.

Step 2: Import your transactions and ensure it follows the QuickBooks format.

  1. Click the Gear icon located at the upper right, then choose Import Transactions.
  2. Choose which bank account you'd like to import, then hit the Import older transactions.
  3. Hit Browse, and choose your file. Please make sure it is in CSV format, then click Open.
  4. Review the data if it contains correct information, then click Continue.
  5. Click Ok.

If your transaction was imported as you connect your bank, I recommend contacting our customer care support so they can investigate this further. Since you mentioned that our support booked you a callback, please know that callback is available on weekdays, Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET.

Here's an article on how you can export the transactions from your bank: Export the transactions from your bank.
