Can I create a project type, similar to the customer type option? Can I assign a unique billable rate to a project or customer, other than a specific product/service?

Yes, we can assign unique billable rates to a specific project or customer, jgarcia3. Let me provide input to help you manage projects in your QuickBooks Online account.

If you're referring to the billable rate in your projects, you can modify the Time entry details page to add a custom billable rate for a project or customer. To do this:

  1. In your QBO account, go to the Projects menu, then find and choose the specific project.
  2. Click on the Time Activity tab.
  3. Open the details of the time entry by clicking the date.
  4. On the Time entry details page, select the Billable to Customer button.
  5. Tick the checkmark box next to Use Custom Rate.
  6. In the Custom billable rate, enter a unique billable rate.
  7. Once done, click Save.

On another note, creating a project type similar to the customer type in QuickBooks is currently unavailable in the program. For now, I recommend sending a feature request directly to our product developers so they can include your suggestions in future product updates.

Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. Go to Settings and select Feedback.
  2. Enter your product suggestions and click Next to submit them.

Furthermore, I've included these references to help you handle your project's profitability in your company data:

Thank you for your reply, but my edit time activity box does not look like the example.

Thanks for your response to the post, @jgarcia3.

The screenshot you have is not the correct one because it pertains to a single-time activity.

Please refer to the screenshot provided by the previous representative to ensure you are following the correct process. I will provide you with the steps.

Here's how:

  1. Login to QuickBooks Online
  2. Go to the left side and click Time.
  3. Click Overview.

Furthermore, to manage your project’s profitability within your company’s data, you can consult this article: Create and manage projects in QuickBooks Online.

Thank you, but I don't see that option.

Thanks for returning to this thread, @jgarcia3.

To clarify, even if you have a different navigation, rest assured, that we can still assign a unique billable time rate to your customers or projects using the navigation that you have.

Here's how:

  1. Go to + New
  2. Click Single time activity under Team.
  3. Set up all necessary information and choose between Customer or Project.
  4. Hit Save and close.

Once you create an invoice, it shows the Suggested transactions linked to your project or customer then click Add to your invoice.

As to your Original Post (OP), there's currently no option to add a project type to a project. You can consider adding it to the description field when you add or edit it.

If you're using QBO Advanced, add a custom field for the project type.
