Can I map customer type to specific general ledger account? We want to differentiate A/R between U.S. and Int'l customers.

I'll share the two options on how you can map a customer type to a specific general ledger (G/L) account, @lsattler

If you're already using the multicurrency functionality, yes, you can perform the mapping of customer types. This lets you record transactions in foreign currencies. With this, it helps you differentiate A/R between your US and International customers. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to Sales from the left menu.
  2. Select Customers
  3. Choose Customer types
  4. Select New customer type.
  5. Enter Accounts Receivable as a customer type.
  6. Click Save.

The screenshot below shows you the last three steps.

Once done, assign this customer type to your customers. Here's how:

  1. Go to Sales from the left menu.
  2. Select Customers
  3. Locate the customer's name, then select it to open the profile.
  4. Go to the Additional info tab.
  5. Choose the customer type from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click Save.

See the screenshot below to show you the last three steps. Repeat the process above for your other customers. For detailed instructions, go through this article: Set Up and Assign Customer Types

After that, create sales transactions for your customers. Then, run the Sales by Customer Type Detail report to get a snapshot of your customer types. Just go to Reports from the left menu. Then, enter the report name in the Search box. Here's a sample screenshot where you can see the transactions under the Accounts Receivable customer type:

If you're not using the multicurrency feature, I'd first suggest turning it on in the settings. Please take note that once this feature is turned on, you're unable to turn it off. This way, you can map a customer type to a G/L account and differentiate between your US and foreign customers. You can refer to the steps I provided above on how to achieve this.
