Creating Budgets in Quick Books

Creating a budget that includes class or job in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is possible, and I'm here to guide you on how, @pastormark.

When you create a budget in QBDT, you can specify additional criteria such as Jobs or Class tracking if you select Profit and Loss as the type. However, the option to do both in a sing budget is unavailable. To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu.
  2. Hover over Planning & Budgeting, then select Set Up Budgets.
  3. Select Create New Budget.
  4. Set the fiscal year and choose Profit and Loss as the type for the new budget. Then, click Next81.PNG
  5. On the Additional Profit and Loss Budget Criteria page, select either the Customer:Job or Class option. Then, click Next82.PNG
  6. Choose either Create budget from scratch or Create budget from the previous year's actual data.
  7. Click Finish83.PNG

The Current Customer:Job and/or Current Class field will be included on the Set Up Budgets window. Then, you can go ahead and create your Profit & Loss by Account and Customer:Job or Class budget. Please see the screenshots below for your reference.

Once you're done, I'd recommend pulling up reports (i.e., Budget Overview, Budget vs. Actual, and Profit & Loss Budget Performance) to review your budgets. To do this, visit the Reports menu and select Budgets and Forecasts.

Also, to further guide you in managing your business accounts and transactions, I'd recommend checking out this article: QuickBooks Help Articles. It also includes video tutorials so you can learn your way around the product.

Let me know if you have other concerns about budgeting and forecasting in QBDT. You can drop a comment below, and I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @pastormark.
